Thats because they decided that before the season had started, before they had really watched him, and now they have seen him are too embarrassed to admit they are totally wrong.

Nothing to do with him being an accident waiting to happen in the past then no.

And yet you claim others haven't really watched him lol

He's been great since the derby, aye, but I think the people going on as if he's never made a mistake are going overboard. He's looked calamitous at times in the past for whatever reason, let's just see how long this good form lasts before declaring him our new saviour.

Exactly, he's improved massively & he is definitely the best goalkeeper at the club right now but talk of being one of the best in the league is a slight exxageration.

What howlers has he made everyone? I had this discussion with my RS mate during the derby when he came on

He was rubbing his hands together at the prospect of Joel coming on, and I said "why, what has he ever done wrong"

he replied "dunno he is just s*** isn't he?"

I said, I think he gets a bad rap coz he always has his mouth open, and therefore looks a bit stupid/soft, but that is it

He let in a wickedly swerving shot from Gaston Ramirez in one of his first games, but I cant remember him doing anything else majorly wrong

I don't know if I have tinted specs on just because I have always rated him, but I he is deffo looking the real deal since he started closing his gob!! haha

His fault for the derby goal actually, and possibly Leicesters 1st in the cup.

But thats just me being picky, a lot of goals goalie's concede are usually "there fault", it comes with the territory of guarding a net with 3 white posts holding it together.

He has improved over the last 18 months, the most important thing at the moment seems to be he is confident and his defence trust him! Sometimes that is more valuable than any ability

the derby goal you could argue he tipped a strange shot onto the post, and none of his DF's were helping out by following up there

This is his fourth season with us. He's 26 now so would have been 22/23 when he first came. His first two seasons I would agree. I didn't want him near the first XI. Then he had a spell in the team when Howard was injured and did ok, but was dropped as soon as Howard returned to fitness.

He played in cup games last season and on the whole did well, to the extent we were all crying out for him to be brought into the side full time when Howard's mistakes were costing us games. I understand that he was the only other option at the time so this clamour for him to play was more down to Howards bad form than Joels good form.

However, since he took over from Howard last year his form has been good in my opinion, with only one bad game against Sunderland away. During that nightmare run at the end of last season he appeared to be the only player, and I mean the only player who, was putting in a shift.

This season I believe he has improved again. Whether that is down to maturing as he still learns the game, or the influence of the new GK coach, I'm not sure. Probably a combination of the two. But he does appear to be more dominant in the 6 yard box and his decision making has also improved. He doesn't seem to make as many clangers either which may be down to confidence.

In addition to this I think he loves it here and his attitude has been absolutely spot on during the periods when he was out of favour. A lot of people appear to still be judging him on his early performances, but he isn't that player any more and I certainly don't think we have one of the worst GKs in the division.

Is he good enough, or will he be good enough in the next 18 months to take us to the next level?, I don't know. But I think he has done well enough to earn his opportunity to show what he can do between now and the end of the season, before we decide to splash out on top GK.

I would say he is more of a solid goalkeeper like a lot in the PL are, he is not a standout keeper like De Gea, but for his price he wouldn't be. I would say he's more Thomas Myrhe than Nigel Martyn.

Think you're being very harsh there mate. Especially on the derby goal. He had to go for the original shot which he didn't see until late, and then our defenders were asleep for the rebound.

Not saying he's perfect. But even the very best make mistakes.

I actually believe he's the most improved player in the squad over the last 12 months and I've been most surprised by his consistency. However the crapness of his first 2 seasons is still recent memory, which is why I think with most of our fans he'll only ever be as good as his next howler.
