Joel Robles

Still rather buy a cheaper younger back up keeper if Robles keeps his form going, as we need outfield players particularly if Lukaku is injured or decides to move on!

This is true, people are forgetting we still need a lot of players, even if we go onto spend 80m in the rest of this window and the summer I dont think we would have enough to go out and get better then Joel from that budget while sorting out the basic needs of the rest of the squad.

Oh dear. I 'm the first to admit that Robles has done surprising ly well this season, but to say he's never really screwed up is nonsense. Without checking, there's Southampton in his first season; his comedy display against some Russian team in a dead rubber; howlers V Barnsley and Sunderland last term. I'm fairly sure there have been others.

Most of those games were random ones where he was thrown into the team.

Takes time to settle in goal and form a bond with your defence.

There is absolutely tons mate, made up he's improved massively but he is coming to a level which is acceptable now, nothing more.

He wasn't even the best Keeper on the pitch Saturday yet people are comparing him to De Gea again.

Fair enough. I did say I can't really remember. Sure he has made some mistakes. Guess what I mean is that I don't find myself worrying when he plays whereas as some speak as though he is an accident waiting to happen.

Think confidence is a scale which affects everything. And mental resilience really influences how a player maintains their confidence. Contrast Ibra and say, Torres. Ibra can go 10 games without scoring but he's resilient, that confidence is still there and he'll score in the 11th game and then go on a run.

Torres on the other hand just lost that belief to the point where mocking websites with measurements of how long it'd been since he scored popped up. Of course other things impacted his situation (being overworked and losing a yard of pace), but you get my point.

Once Stek made his first mistake for us (at home against Southampton where to be fair it was a foul, but still he was weak vs Austin and it dropped into the net) he seemed to make more and more. It will be a big test for Joel when he makes his next mistake. Hopefully he'll shrug it off.

Yeah can see your point - if true then hopefully way he's taken his chance in after being 2nd fiddle to Stek is an example of staying tough and being able to bounce back, albeit that's not the same as coping with stick over a 'howler' as such.

Torres lampooning was also due to his vastly inflated fee after a general downward spiral in form over time. I still don't know who represented the biggest waste of cash him, or Carroll! Not that I lost sleep over either :)

Thats because they decided that before the season had started, before they had really watched him, and now they have seen him are too embarrassed to admit they are totally wrong.
