Joel Robles

Why does this matter mate? Lloris didnt have Prem experience, he hit the ground running. And only cost £8m when Spurs weren't a CL side. Players are out there if we look hard enough.
But for every Lloris there are two Bravo's and I agree Lloris was a bargain (although getting Spurs fans to agree after his "performance" at City might have been a stretch) Lets be honest you'd be pushed to name three top keepers who we'd have any real chance of signing.

It's not the priority position, of course. But in the next couple of years if we continue to improve, a top keeper could easily be the difference between us finishing 4th or 5th.
Without that dire run of form we had (nothing to do with Robles) we'd be close to 4th now.

I honestly think the biggest issue is that many fans can't shake their initial opinion of him. In the same way Gana being so incredible from day 1 makes any game in which he plays poorly just a case of him just having an off day, for so many no matter how much Joel does right, when he has an off day that is the real him.

9 clean sheets in 16 means nothing because he's still the big galoot we signed from Wigan who had some bad cup games early in his career.

I'll always maintain that Big Nev has spoilt blues. We expect too much. Every keeper makes mistakes, Cech for example has made more bad ones than Joel this season, but Joel gets no slack.

I hope he moves on to be honest and finds a good club where the fans give him a fair chance. Let's sign Butland or whatever flavour of the month takes our fancy, because they are definitely going to bridge the gap between 7th and 4th. We would have at least 15 clean sheets in 16 with Pickford or Schmeichel. Defo.

I bet there's a big disparity between match going Blues and internet Blues on this issue

I think if you polled 100 Blues on match day, the majority would give him a favourable write up

I've made that mistake before about thinking the online feeling translates to your average fan, and the truth is most fans have no idea about internet sentiment or forums and don't share the entrenched views that you find on here

That's a fair point Mikey.

I'll be sure to blow big J a kiss at goodison on Sunday.

I am absolutely part of this statistic. Honestly hated him for what is still the majority of his Everton career.

Really hope he proves us all wrong. He's at that age now where he can either go downhill or start becoming a very solid keeper. Hoping for the latter of course.

Hate is a strong word! :D

Even if you think he's tosh he seems a good lad!

Just watched the replay of the Chelsea City game. That Courtois goal was straight out of Tim Howard's best jokes competition.

Lucky we don't have him.
Just like the Lloris performance V City.If it had been Robles the forum would have melted down within minutes of the final whistle.

I know it's never good to go off of what you read on the internet but I read something about him being a jerk to a couple of kids just wanting an autograph a few years back. That sort of stuck with me for whatever reason. I don't "hate" him anymore; he's growing on me as a keeper. Like I said he's at a crossroads in his career at this point and I hope he starts really succeeding (but not enough where we are forced to sell!)

That really seems at odds with what I've observed but then I suppose it also shows the silliness of thinking you actually know a footballer. Or anyone in the public eye. Who knows though. Maybe he was fed up of being dropped by Martinez and one of the kids was an American tourist who sounded like Tim Howard. Or maybe he is a bell.

All I know is that we've improved since he came into the team and I think he's done well, and has shown a promising rate of improvement. And I like that.
