Joel Robles

That really seems at odds with what I've observed but then I suppose it also shows the silliness of thinking you actually know a footballer. Or anyone in the public eye. Who knows though. Maybe he was fed up of being dropped my Martinez and one of the kids was an American tourist who sounded like Tim Howard. Or maybe he is a bell.

All I know is that we've improved since he came into the team and I think he's done well, and has shown a promising rate of improvement. And I like that.
That is all you can ask for from any player! Anything less is a waste of everyone's time. All I know is that he is by default our best keeper, but then NSNO, and all that.

I honestly think the biggest issue is that many fans can't shake their initial opinion of him. In the same way Gana being so incredible from day 1 makes any game in which he plays poorly just a case of him just having an off day, for so many no matter how much Joel does right, when he has an off day that is the real him.

9 clean sheets in 16

Spot on that, I think another issue is people are putting names out of keepers they might like but they dont see enough of them to really know. If we got linked with a keeper who has made that many clean sheets in that amount of games we would be hoping that Koeman is all over it, but we already have him. What we need to do now is improve the line of defense in front of him, and not let players just run at the goal like Kane and Liverpool did.

People say we need a top 4 keeper or a keeper to challenge the regular top 6, but there is no chance those teams would even look at the likes of Heaton (who gets great protection from Michael Keane), Schmeichel and Hart has already been sent packing from one (Claudio Bravo also not being good enough is a seperate issue).

Everyone was raving about Pickford but since he was so bad against us recently I've not seen as many call for us to sign him. Funny that.

Not to say that Pickford isn't a great talent. Or not to say he is. I actually have no idea. But keepers are arguably the hardest players to judge. The stats suggest Robles is the best of the lot at the moment but that isn't enough for most. It's a tough one, I just think Everton fans will never be happy with their keeper until the last of the generation that grew up with Nev are gone. So if there are any world class keepers planning on being born in the next 15-30 years, defo consider the blues.

never thought I'd say this, but Robles has done perfectly fine apart from 1 or 2 brain farts (which all keepers have) and in the main I am happy enough with his progression.
I did think he was absolute dog turd when we signed him though, so he's changed my opinion.

I don't think that actually happens mate. Us old arses just think we were blessed to have him. Those making the Nev comparisons were the deluded fanboys stupidly bigging him up not people blaming him for not being the bin fella.

who has compared him to Big Nev?
maybe when big Nev arrived to be in and out of the team he made the odd blunder or two hence Arnold replaced him, but when he settled down on a run in the team he is the greatest keeper we are likely to see play for the blues-
I seen Westy who we paid top money for great keeper , but had his bad days coming off his line for crosses was one hence Rankin challenged him for his place West was international class - big nev was world class - thats a big difference!
Even Labby joked as westy was his best mate you were are best in the black and white tv era - Nev was the best in the colour tv era - a great diplomat -was Labby!lol

Scroll back before the derby mate, several people made that comparison

Watching Pickford here, then Robles and Schmeichel later, proberbly the three most mentioned nanes on this thread, et's see which one has the best game ;)

Using The save percentage which people on here used to try and suggest he was the best in the league than Lloris, Heaton, Grant & Pickford are all ahead of him now.
