Joel Robles

One was from open play and further infield by Barnes.

It was bad positioning by Robles and even all the commentators on Sky thought he should done better.

Hand on heart, i dont remember anyone blaming Southall on the evening of that game.

I'm sure they didn't blame Southall, thats the point. Not every goal has to have blame, but with sky, they make it that way, and the 4-4 was pre sky.

I'm surprised Schmeichel wasnt blamed for not saving Roms header that went in the centre of the goal.

They even tried to blame De Gea for Jags goal the other day.

Too much analysis and too much blame is ruining players and ruining the game.

Hey, that rhymes.

Big problem Robles has and I think this has been a problem for the past 2 years, our defence has changed so dramatically from the loss of Distin and Jags 1st team capabilities, wingback injuries plus the lack of depth in defence.

A keepers defence is key to consistency and stability.

When a keeper has to think, they make mistakes. Both goals today came from Robles thinking too much about:
1) coming off his line because he felt his centrebacks didn't have the legs to get over so rushs and gives the striker too much time to shoot.
2) thinking his defence couldn't defend against headers so not setting himself for the shot.

Our defence is shaky, needs a overhaul and I think Robles doesn't have long as our No 1.

As his replacement, a lot of names banded about but no one has mentioned
Ralf Fährmann of Schalke.

I don't put any blame on him for the second goal. Just one of those freak goals that was difficult to stop. Remember Big Nev conceding similar albeit from open play..The John Barnes goal in the epic 4-4 FA Cup match against Liverpool. Just one of those type of goals.

Nev had one or two in his career this joke has had two howlers in 3 games

So did you...

Also, as Banno rightly says, the goals were very similar. You say Joel is at fault for having more time, but there is no way Joel thought he was shooting, so coming for the cross was the right thing to do. If that had been a free header at the back, people would've blamed him for staying on his line.

It was a fluke of a goal, nothing to see here.

Just to clarify you think coming for (and shouting to come for) a cross which was actually a shot and was a simple catch was "the right thing to do"?

The only context that goal could be described as a fluke is because the keeper had a brain fart.

Best keeper I've seen at SAFC since we had a young Shay Given on loan which is something we've had some canny keepers down the years. He'll be away we're skint and if he ambitions of pushing for the England squad he needs to be playing PL football I think yous out of the clubs linked would be the best option for him
Much as I would like him , it would be nice to think he would choose to give you at least one more season. I still like to see some measure of loyalty and honour in football ,even if it is undervalued in the ' modern' game.

It would be interesting to see how many direct errors he has made resulting in goals this season?

Today, the goals conceded were disappointing, but they came as a result of defensive errors or situations that could have been avoided before the final phase of play.

The last line of defence always gets the blame but today I can't hold him accountable. He's had an above average season in my opinion.

...after being very consistent he's had a few calamity moments, it's as though he loses his bearings.

It's a tough call on him isn't it?
His stats seem to match up with any keeper in the league but, you know he has that 'moment' in him.
Do you just put up with the odd lapse, or replace him. If you replace him, who with?

I disagree... The cross (and it was a cross) was whipped in high and at pace, and dropped (being the operative word) in the very top corner.

It was a fluke, and the people blaming him for it, be they on here or the 2 clowns on sky, are being unfair.

If that was Harry Kane or Delli Alli, they would only be raving about the goal, not the keeper. Because it's Albrighton and Joel, he definitely didn't mean it, it's a keeper error.

I just find the whole thing weird.

That's the thing with keepers, all but the very very best have 'that moment ' in them. If we replace him it should only be with a top class keeper, because, he is as good as most of the others.
