Joel Robles

Great post with lots I agree with. The bolded bit drives me mad though and seems to be a massive issue with our club. We don't half play ourselves down!

We are a "forwardly mobile" club who should be in Europe next season, with a legendary player as a manager and a billionaire bank rolling us and a sexy new stadium to look forward to.

Lets dream a bit! There are only so many goalkeeper spots out there so if we throw a bit of money at a good one we may land him. We talk ourselves down way too much.
You're spot on mate, I was probably underselling our club, although I would argue I was also being realistic given where we are right at this moment.

The top class keepers club has very exclusive membership. There's probably 3/4 in the premiership, with a similar number in Germany and Spain and perhaps another couple in Italy. Most of them are already playing at top clubs with regular champions league football, the exceptions being Butland and Timo Horn at Cologne. I know Horn is highly rated in Germany, but he is still young and hasn't played International football yet. I'm also wary that a couple of his highly rated compatriots have really struggled at Leicester and Liverpool so there's still a bit of a question mark over young German keepers for me. Which is why I singled out Butland in my post.

But there's absolutely no reason why we can't put bids in to the likes of Chelsea, United, Tottenham, Leverkuson, Milan, Barca, Sevilla and Munich for their keepers. As you say, throw enough money at them and see what happens. If nothing else it would course a storm in the UK press.:)

Personally I think we should try and find the next Butland, or De Gea or Courtois and let them compete with Robles for the number 1 slot over the next couple of seasons, and hope we hit the jackpot. The lad at Sunderland may be the one, or perhaps Timo Horn if the price is right.

Yep that's true.

But we just need better than Joel in general.

A goalkeeper is so key and while Joel is nowhere near Howard (of the last few years) bad, he doesn't fill you with confidence either.
Howard was utter rubbish in his last three years that's when Robles should of had his run in the team by now we would know how good he was with more experience,it's his first run properly in the team not done too badly imo!
I have seen worse keepers play for us the most expensive one David Lawson utter gash !

I agree with you about the third goal. Morgan called for the ball and Joel gave it to him.

But it was the first goal that was worse at Spurs. He should never have let that shot beat him at his nearside.

If the club can sign Butland or Leicester' s keeper then great or maybe even Heaton - that's a clear improvement but Robles is as good as most in the Premier and I still think Pickford is not obviously better than him.
Second goal wasn't it mate?. Third one was when they took the quick free kick to Alli. I still put most of the blame on Robles for the second goal. Morgs may have called for it but Joel can see the bigger picture as he's facing the play and it was a bad judgment call to roll it out to him. My only beef was that, due to the ongoing love in with Morgs, his part in it is conveniently consigned to history.

I would put the first goal of that match down to poor defending more than Robles. Gana unusually shied out of a tackle and Barry was far too slow closing down. Robles wouldn't have been expecting Kane to shoot and wouldn't have been set properly, although I think his positioning wasn't too bad. He's a big lad and a tad slow to get down at the best of times, so not being set meant the ball was practically past him before he had time to react. To me, it's another one of those where you would have liked our keeper to do better rather than an obvious error.

Agree with Butland as an upgrade but don't think either Heaton or Schmeicel are, plus Joel's still learning his trade and has further room for improvement. Hopefully.

There's keepers sat on the bench at European clubs that are better than Robles. Are we saying they wouldn't move to be number 1? Of course they would. I'd have United and Arsenal's number 2s over Robles tbh, maybe even Vorm at Spurs too.
Yes there on the bench quite happy to pick up a massive salary and a champions league spot something ATM we cannot offer?

Joey, an actual honest question for you. Do you really, hand on heart, honestly, no messing about, think Joel Robles is the best goalkeeper Everton FC could possibly get or have in our goal currently, either at the club or we could buy elsewhere?

Why would they be happy to be in a champions league side if they don't play in the games? That makes no sense.

We can offer massive salaries, especially compared to a lot of European clubs. That isn't really a problem any more. The main thing is the player has to be worth it.

ATM yes comparing him to Stek who started well, and declined hence dropped maybe we will sign a Keeper, but I will support the one who plays for us who's record is not as bad as you and the few others claim he is bordering rubbish if he lets a goal in its scrutinised up to the Derby he was playing well, the team were awful on that day so some blame him!

Man UNT he made two great saves, the moaners never came on here then one mistake yesterday in a 4-2 win and they are at it again - I have seen keepers from Westy onwards believe me we have had worse keepers more expensive too than Roblex he is still young not the finished article he has improved in his first run in the team hanging on too Timmy has cost us - Stek was never the answer!
A Fulham Southampton reject, started well then his flaws showed we need competition as we do all over the team to be successful even more so in the Europa!
