Joey "Cigar" Barton is not happy...

i reckon get him now whilst he's cheap(er), an if hes a [Poor language removed], get rid of him at the end of the season, for a bit more money to clubs like newcaslte!

will everton keep stubbs on in a coaching role?

i am 99% sure that if ferguson was teaching a bit of striker coaching, just having him around would mean little twatty gobshites like barton would mind their mouth.

thugs only understand and respect one thing, an ass kicking from someone bigger.

It could work, we could sign him and moyes could keep him on a tight leash, but it also could go spectacularly wrong.

i hope numerous clauses are worked into his contract if he does sign.

The big question is Barton for 5.5m or Fernandes for 12m?! We could effectively get Nugent and Barton for Fernandes?! Im not actually sure what i want from those two options- two scousers who know what it means to pull on the blue shirt of Everton or a potential world class portugese midfielder?!

im not convinced on nugent, and certainly not for 6 or 8 million, i cant go through it many more times but

johnson
cahill
vaughan
anichebe
mcfadden
beattie

effectivley six strikers, so we might lose beattie, still leaves us with five strikers.

thats plenty.

lets say we get him (nugent) in, who does he displace? cahill? then we play 4-4-2? the 4-5-1 works for us so well with johnno's pace and cahills ability to see the future and wander into a goal scoring opportunity.

the problem area in our squad is midfield, and it has been since forever.

Arteta is the only nailed on certainty in midfield (depending how you view cahill)
carsley does an effective job, but we need better distributors of the ball in his defensive midfield position.
neville is a stop gap in midfield, can man-mark well, but doesnt cut it with his passing ability.
vdm is a gonner, the only player with absolute pace in our midfield is an absolute waster that has spurned the conveyor belt of chances/opportunities afforded him.
osman has skill and technique, but is too damn small, if he was stocky and strong like maradonna was then osman would be absolute dynamite - but he simply isnt strong. (i watched primus on saturday, he is massive, he dwarfed vic, and vic dwarfs ossie - and thats the cold hard truth of it)
fernandes is on loan, looks a great player, not tall, not super quick, but amazing feet and passing, as well as a bit of telepathy with mikel - class senses class.

(on that note - i would like to see how fernandes and arteta play when the cahill option is on the pitch)

cahill, tenacious and strong, able to out muscle bigger players than himself to win headers, knows how to hit the target as well.

for our midfield, thats it.

the OS shows we have 5 strikers.
it also shows we have 9 midfielders - cahill, vidarsson, neville, and silva are in that nine - with manny who is on loan. so really we only have four midfielders...osman, arteta, carsley, and vdm.

i cant make it any clearer to the entire evertonian universe, midfield is the problem, we need to spend every penny on midfield. lets get it right, its about time.

ANother way of looking at it. Fernandes is too expensive, as much as I would love him to stay. This is a possibility:

Sidwell + Barton = Only 5.5 Million. Sidwell is free and City would let go of Joey for the fee mentioned in his contract. Newcastle are in for Sidwell, but in fairness would you want to go there.

Koumas might be worth a pop for around 3 million. I dont want to see Nugent in next season if it is at the expense of Vaughan and Anichebe as Suits points out. The money could be better spent elsewhere, especially as also pointed out by the boy Suits, Cahill can play up front.

Devils advocate here hes coming and he could be the last of the big time charlies. But a player he is. Its the excess baggage that come along with his game that I don't like. I say Carsley will put him in his place when needed.

Lads id love to sign him hes a cracking player for me and a real missing liink in the team i.e. all round midfield general defensively/offensively with a good engine, a leader on the pitch.

Ive said before one mans big time charlie/player with baggage is another clubs cult hero or flawed genious.

Personally i dont give a stuff if he drives around merseyside with his arse hanging out a window, or robs sweets of the kids in the stand on his way to the pitch, i dont watch football for a leson in how to live life meaningfully or for a morality lesson, i watch it for the pasion emotion and drama. Bring him on. He could be a legend in the makeing.

IMO i wouldnt be to dissapointed if the only signings we made this summer were fernandes and barton id be made up with both.

I feel we have cover in most areas, bar on the wings to cover suspensions injuries. I feel the added quality of both would be a great peice of development. One possible scenario for next years sqaud could be:

Keepers:
Howard
Turner
Ruddy

Full backs
Hibbert
Neville
Naysmith
Valente
Boyle.

C.B.
Stubbs
Yobo
Lescott

Midfield
Cahill
Carsley
Arteta
Ossie
Vidarson
Fernades
Barton.

Strikers
AJ
VIc
Vaghan
Beattie
MCF

Id settle for that should be a 12mill outlay on manny and 5.5mill on barton =17.5 all in all, perhaps a million ot two on a punt on a left winger maybe koumas or kightley. Also Moyes could pull of a decent loan as in the past.

I trust Moyes to know what he's doing but I have big reservations about Joey Barton as a character. At the moment we have what seems to be a fantastic dressing room. It does seem that Moyes places a great deal of importance in that so will have no doubt assessed Barton's character. Hopefully he'll be proved right because we've been here before with Ferguson. For all the adulation he received he never made the most of his undoubted talent for us and became the 20 goal a season striker we all believed he should be.

Barton does have talent and with Carsley in the twilight of his career and Neville more suited to full back the anchor role is an area where we could do with some strengthening, and of course the fee is very good. There's just that niggling feeling about his character. I'd love to think he was similar to Roy Keane in that his desire to win boils over but I'm not really sure that he is either smart enough or good enough to be placed in the same sentance as Keane.

Time will tell.

Taking your point Bruce, but i can see a lot of similarties between himself and keane both on and of the pitch at the same age. Im his biggest fan but Roy Keane has done some mad and impetuous things on and of the pitch that Barton never has, maybe never will.

I think his rep is blown out of proportion. Lets face it that young kid in thailand prob deserved a clip around the ear.

And if 40,000 plus were calling my brother a murdering racist true or not, and i had a hand in an equaliser in the 90th minute id feel like reacting. Ok the reaction says more about his intellegence levels than anything and im not condoning it but i can understand it. He was outstanding that day B.T.W.

End of hes a quality footballer. Similar to roy at the same age Keane had raw talent as Barton does now. He was luckly enough to come across a great coach to harness it to his advantage and became a great player (not imediately), with experience. Now im not saying that Barton will ever be the player Keane (i.e. he was one player in a great team) became but ability wise at the same age there not a kick in the arse away. ALL THE INGREDIANTS ARE THERE.

i have a sense that his rep is blown compleatley out of proportion and am sick of paper fuelled sensaliation danming young talented players for evey cock up that all us fans prob got away with at the same age.

I have every faith and confidence in Moyes to manage, coach and mind the lad, I mean come on if someone was being a prick in any of our places of work youd chin them, hes about 5" 7" i hardly see him being the hell raiser people make him out to be.

So

Sign him up, future captain and cult hero in the making! Remeber were you heared it first ill be digging the thread out!

I agree with you on most points Neiler - especially about the media continueing to blow everything out of proportion.

He could be the best thing which could be added to the team, but I'm still more hooked on Fernandes. Anyway if Moyes gets either player I would deem it a good investment. Both are young and hungry and have great footballing reps. which would make it is easy to move them on if things don't work out.

Ideally I would - like you - be pleased if both are signed, but despite doing an OK job on the wing Arteta needs to be played in the center. Hence we need wide players more than central players. Cover for CB and a move for Baines of Wigan would be welcomed as well.

A midfield of Fernandes, Barton, Cahill, and Arteta would however be mouthwatering - despite my fears of lacking with.

This team would challenge Arsenal and the Red Side.

Howard

Neville
Yobo
Lescott
Baines

Fernandes
Barton
Cahill
Arteta

Johnson
Vaughan

On it's day this team should be able to beat everyone in the PL.

Dabo's face and the on going police investigation is a tad more than media hype lads:( .

I was especially delighted to see the lads celebrate our win at the weekend, the team spirit oozed all over the pitch, everyone but everyone pulling for each other, that is an element money can't buy. It is now suggested that we must buy Barton, imo its like volunteering for a cancer experiment, you just don't do it. This lad is so bright that he had the good sense to flash his arse at the Gwladys, he is supposed to be a blue for Christ sake.

I do not doubt his footballing ability but his pernicious attitude is something we do not want near your club. The only way it could work is for the club to appoint Big Dunc as his personal trainer with a clause in his contract saying "if I step out of line for any reason Sir Duncan can beat the [Poor language removed] out of me".

KEEP THIS BUM AWAY FROM GP
