Sorry for not bowing to the Crown Prince of Barnsley. He'll have to add a defensive side to his attacking game for me like.
 
He's a luxury on the ball but he should cut out dropping the shoulder in the 6 yard box and concentrate more on snuffing out danger. What's the point in dribbling inside your own box, it'll eventually bite him in the arse. Still doesn't look like a centre half, needs to bulk up. Perhaps he is more of a right full after all.

silly black and white post. sort of nonsense clogs up the threads.

he obviously does defend pretty well or it would show in every game. except it doesn't and he has plenty of good defensive performances with us.

Precisely my point mate. By definition the best centre backs in Europe dont 'defend pretty well'. They are monsters all over it, and in complete command of their box.

But you intimated he doesnt have a defensive side to his game, and needs it to impress you. Thats what you said David. That simply isn't true.

Saying why he is not the best in Europe is another thing altogether, and IMO you should direct your comments at any people you think are being OTT about him, rather than making digs at the player all the time to indirectly respond to those who praise him to high heavens.

General rule of thumb, give the younguns plenty of time and lay off on the harsh criticism.

Hope you will understand now and post accordingly.

there is no hope at all for some fans, and the idea of footballers bulking up, leave that nonsense to sleeve tattooed self loathing closet cases down their crappy roid head gyms, footballers do not need to bulk up

He's given a free pass because he's widely thought of even now as being one of the best CBs around. Maybe that's why he's not all that as a defender right now - he's told he's there already when he's miles off. It's why (to use your own words) 'he defends pretty well' but is not dominant.

Imperious, majestic, thoroughbred...all words rightly used about his game with the ball at his feet. The words to describe his defensive attributes are naive, tentative and average.
