John Stones Is A Rolls Royce But…

I think at Barca he would be fine to do that simply because that team positions correctly for that play from the back style and they expect/trust each player to deliver the ball forward.

I dont have the link off hand but there is a T. Henry analysis of how Barca playing style demands each to position until the final third is gained, from there they have freedom to move around. Sometimes I think we (Everton) have that ...most times not. Stones is right in the middle of that debate.
Yes, I'm all for playing footy from the back, and I agree (in fact made the point myself yesterday) that the personnel surrounding a player also comes into play, but let's have some context here.

A worthy comparison with yesterday would be to ask what a Barcelona CB would have done/been expected to do in a hard fought game with Atletico or Madrid with the score tied at 1-1 and with almost no time left to respond if they fell behind. Would they have turned back into their own box a couple of times toward their own GK and turn away twice, or would they have got the ball clear of danger?

The latter all the time, imo. And if they didn't they'd have faced the same reaction from the patrons of the Nou Camp.

I'm worried (a little) about RM.

I'm worried about our defensive coaches.

I'm worried about our current owners; I'm worried about our future owners.

I'm worried about our CEO and most of our "thought leaders."

Every day I worry all day; about what's waiting in the bushes of love.

I'm worried about Kone; I'm worried about Howard.

I'm worried about our semi against City and I'm definitely worried about paying thousands of dollars to fly to England to watch a replay of the 1986 FA Cup final.

I'm worried about all of that but I'm not worried about John Stones playing football.

Not an issue.

I believe we should be building a defence around John Stones not asking John to be something he's not.

Without knocking Howard too much a goalkeeper that gave Stones an alternative to attempting to play the ball out every time would be a start.

However fundamentally you should be adapting your team, formations and systems around your best players, not the reverse.
you are correct, but we all know he's going to be sold when a 'big' team offers Bill a bottom trembling amount.
Is it really worth building our defence around a player who probably won't be here next season?

(just being realistic, someone will pay, and Stones will resubmit his transfer request)

Barca have terrible defenders tho.

If your gonna use examples, at least try and use talented players.

Theres not a single player in world football that comes even close to John F Stones, stop trying to compare him to mortals.

At any point does he not look in control?
At any point is there any danger of him losing the ball?

Does he look like somebody that doesnt know what hes doing?
Notice how he ignores the 2 options given to him by Besic and Howard?

I agree with Besic, who clearly says something along the lines of "Well done John"

When he tries to do his first turn and it bounces off his left leg. Luckily it fell nicely but it could well have fell to Son's feet and we've conceded.

I do think some people are overreacting, and I'd encourage him to bring the ball out from the back as much as anyone, but that was a different situation.

By doing what he did, instead of booting the ball out for a throw, (Spurs ball), or relying on Howard to do similar, (Spurs ball, probably), or trying to bounce it off Spurs player and conceding a corner, (Spurs goal most likely), he drew a foul.

Everton ball. 1 1.

Problem?

He was just taking him for walkies, which when you think about it, is kinda ironic.
