John Stones Is A Rolls Royce But…

Yeah, let's work on those things though. People are effectively dissecting a 21 year old for successfully controlling possession.

...but we can all point to games this season where he's not controlled the situation and its been costly.

It's understandable after the defensive calamities of recent weeks that the crowd got jumpy over that stunt. If we had a two goal cushion: not a problem. But the situation was tense and fraught with danger.

I think there's a lot of people confusing stylish football here with brainless football. Anything near your own 6 yard box (or turning toward it...twice) is verboten. No matter who you are.

I just think that Stones has misjudged the moment he was in badly and this is the result.

By doing what he did, instead of booting the ball out for a throw, (Spurs ball), or relying on Howard to do similar, (Spurs ball, probably), or trying to bounce it off Spurs player and conceding a corner, (Spurs goal most likely), he drew a foul.

Everton ball. 1 1.

Problem?

Not with me.

I have wondered if really is he a CB, should perhaps he be moved more forward?
I said the same thing when he first broke into the team. I haven't changed my mind.

I doubt he'll acquire the full game of a CB, which requires a lot more physical presence in the box than Stones can/will give.

Spot on article that.

Trying to play it out from within his own penalty area is fine.

Trying to play it out from inside the 6 yard box should only happen if he is taking the ball away from goal. The problem yesterday was that he was taking the ball towards the goal again which is defensive madness. Any decent forward will think he is taking the p and catch him out eventually.

I would like to see RM take a chance bring Jags back in and try Stones in front of the back four perhaps work it in by virtue of subbing.
