John Stones transfer saga

I think volume gets the most attention in such matters i.e. if enough rattled their sabres....
this is totally true and bit depressing really. the volume of complaint matters more than how valid it is unless its someone with power. One day The Sun will be shut down and lets hope its the city of Liverpool they see hovering over them as they draw their last breath.

Thanks - he spoke very well and obviously still cares deeply about the club. I'm not quite with him on his view of the board but it was a good interview, good to see former players talk so fondly of Everton.

Agreed, his support of the board smacked a tad of towing the party line, but really nice to here the obvious respect and dare I suggest affection for Everton in the manner he spoke.

Love the way he 'flees his home' and takes / wears his Everton tracky! He must have woke up sweating and screaming when he seen our badge on the jacket hanging over the chair, as memories of the hate mob with the flaming torches outside his house came flooding back...

That terrified mind you he forget to phone the police and get a report.

Did get on the phone to The Sun though, just to let them know like.

Martinez:
"If the footballing authorities don't act we are going to end up in a position that contracts are going to mean nothing for players that perform well.

"The contract will only have any standing when the player is having a tough time or they're injured.

"A year ago if you commit yourself for five years there is some sort of responsibility behind that decision.

"It can't just be in order to protect when things are not going well for a player. That is an issue where the football authorities need to look into it.

"Maybe they want to change the way everything works and not have contracts."

I've agreed with everything Martinez has said this week, he's played a blinder.....except one argument which kinda sets himself up (and Everton) as a hypocrite....the window should be closed before the season starts, but it isn't so Chelsea are entitled to bid for Stones....and yes Stones has a contract with us, but Chelsea are still entitled to bid for him.....reason I don't like Martinez making this argument, is that it now implies that we won't be bidding for any player whose contracted to another club because we feel that's wrong....and infact we won't be bidding for any player now because the season has started and that's unfair to that club (and puts pressure on that player).....when we signed Stones, it was on deadline day and he was contracted to Barnsley....

Our argument should be about the manner Chelsea have gone about this....making the first bid public, Mourinho constantly talking about Stones in his press conferences, Chelsea players going on Sky Sports News telling Stones to join him.....do your transfer business Chelsea, but do it quietly and do it with some class!....

I disagree. Everton's transfer window has been thrown by Chelsea not taking no for an answer and Martinez not knowing what might transpire and therefore what to prioritise...on top of the usual financing issues he faces with this abhorrent board of directors making him wait.

Ideally we should have had major business done before the season starts and then use the last two weeks (if it's there to be used) for tweaking by picking up loan deals for players superfluous to other clubs.

There'll be no hypocrisy if Martinez does major business now...chance would be a fine thing!

Plus it's not like we've bullied someone to the point he's had to hand in a transfer request if we sign them within the next few days, like.

More impartial 'journalism'. Fails to mention that Barnsley were willing sellers & Everton never hounded him through the press to sign.

This guy was Chelsea's mouthpiece during the whole thing. He even called Stones transfer request about a week before he handed it in - said Chelsea were waiting for his "reaction" to their interest before making a fourth bid. Nothing shady there though I'm sure.
