John Stones transfer saga

I think it looks a massive mistake to have kept hold of him. We have a weak defence that he's part and parcel of, and we needed desperately to strengthen in a number of positions. It was said last week that this could end up a hollow victory, and I reckon we'll see that underlined this week when that window slams shut leaving us perilously short of quality all over the park.

To be fair, Chelsea started with a low bid and haven't gone over 30 million.

If we had sold for 30 mill (the highest bid Roberto has said there was), then it probably would have broke down something like this:

4 million to Barnsley
9 million Johnny Evans (injury prone)
14 million for Bernard
3 million for Lennon

I'd rather keep a potentially world class centre half in all honesty.

We should have taken it..with add ons.

I underline again: we might have two England CBs (one actual, the other almost certain to be) but together they are not all that. We have a poor central defensive partnership. They're all over the place. I dont see the value in retaining that, tbh. And £30M or £27M with Barnsley's cut taken out plus add ons would have been the way to go.

Why do you play with my emotions like this Dave?

I dont see a defence that's worth keeping in its present shape. We relied on Howard there to get those two CBs out of jail yesterday. They stunk, as per usual.
I'll speak the unspeakable truth here: we have one of the worst CD pairings in the PL. They look good on paper but are a disaster zone in reality.

£30M regardless of the Barnsley situation would have been way more preferable than this.

I dont think the Stones situation is over by a long chalk,I still see him going to Chelsea on Monday. As it stands Mourinho has threw him under a bus he said he wouldnt make another bid until Stones hands in a transfer request which he has now done Mourinho isnt going to leave it there.
We will sell him on Tuesday with no time to spend the money.

To be fair the Board level bits in that are more than plausible, especially the Barnsley bit. Rest sounds like rubbish though, and repeating the forced out of his home thing as if it's fact is ridiculous

Just had a look at The Sunday Supplement and Bates from The People had said JS had had to move out of his house into a hotel blah blah....but when Jonathan Northcroft of The Sunday Times had his say round the table on Stones, he said something to the effect that 'Everton supporters weren't like that...JS had already moved into a hotel for security reasons prior to this because of burglaries in the area...Everton fans weren't at his door brandishing pitchforks'.

After what Mourinho said yesterday they could come on with a massive offer, to try amd kill this once a and for all, although Stones did get a fantastic reception through out the game yesterday and particularly at the end of the game. so who knows, he could come out and sy he wants to stay, For me Stones comes out of this with huge respect the way he has behaved
