John Stones transfer saga

To be fair to Lescott, City won the FA Cup and league title during the two years he was first choice.

Him and Jagielka were a fantastic pairing, and neither has ever looked as good since going their separate ways.
I thought he had a great first season with Kompany then through whatever reason Mancini broke it up.

He hath spokenlollollol

Such a lazy article that.

Got a problem with pretty much all of it but in particular:

Everton are taking a big risk by blocking Stones’ move to Chelsea, especially after the defender made it clear he wanted a move to the Blues by handing in a transfer request.

Stones may have wanted to go to Chelsea, but he's shown in the past 2 matches his professionalism and hasn't exactly said he hates playing for Everton has he? Lawrenson even admits that.

What do Everton do if he becomes a nuisance after the deadline and pulls out all the stops to engineer a move next summer or even during the January transfer window?

So much wrong with this one isn't therelol. So Lawrenson points out Stones' professionalism and then hints that he's suddenly going to become unprofessional? Surely if he now can't stand playing for us, he would have shown some sign of it yesterday instead of spending time coming over to the fans to acknowledge us. Secondly, Lawrenson who is supposed to know his football, seems unaware that this is the season before the Euro's? Is it really likely Stones is going to refuse to put in effort?

I'd love there to be some counter articles that these so called knowledgeable pundits had to respond to.

This is what I find strange . Do people really expect a club, whoever they are to make their maximum bid first?
No, but I expect them to move up the gears fairly fast and start the process early in a window when the selling team needs to get in replacements and allow them to bed in.

Window opens 1st July
1st Stones bid 20m July 17
2nd bid 25m July 29
3rd bid 30m Aug 17
4th bid (?) 37m Aug 25

By contast City
1st Sterling bid 11th June of 25m plus addons
2nd bid 28th June 35.5 plus addons
3rd bid 10th July 44m plus add-ons
Sterling City player 12th July

John was never going for less than a record fee for a defender ie >32m, the board would have been slaughtered.

Since Stones was apparently their prime target this season it is strange they started so late - last year Costa was and they had him signed on the 1st July.

this is what is making the bias obvious. Quite a few people have said he needs to stay when interviewed and yet their opinions don't make headlines and don't get regurgitated the way others are. Martin Keown wasn't even asked to comment on Everton's performance last night on MOTD let alone repeat his in depth reasons why Stones should stay

Chelsea are a club with a fantastically wealthy owner , yet they basically chose to insult Everton with an opening bid of 20m.
We see now that is less than half of the amount that might entice Everton to sell.
If Chelsea want to make it difficult for Everton they should come in with a mind blowing bid..they could afford it.
45m plus Remy or 45m plus Zouma.

Nonsense. Lescott was a bigger presence in defence than invisible man Jagielka. Distin was also the most obvious presence in that pairing too.

Now we have a poor situation: two CBs who cant stamp their authority on a defence. And doesn't it just tell?

If you mean by 'presence' taller and wider I would find it hard to disagree.

It is an achievement, sticking to our guns in the money mad modern game. I do fear it will be for naught though if we fail to add to the squad.

ok mate I'll buy tour house from you. presumably you would say no because you'd be homeless. is that am achievement that you didn't sell your house to me?

same principle. long term contract player and no need to sell so us turning Chelsea down was neither here nor there. keeping a mirallas who was contract down would have been more significant as either we sold or gave him a contract.

I can see this song becoming an anthem sang around the country when Chelea are the visitors, in much the same was the Denba Ba song was last season at grounds where the RS were playing.
