John Stones transfer saga

Next time you watch Sakho play and he gets the ball, imagine all the players around him shouting "RIGHT LADS, LET'S GET HIM!", because without fail they'll charge him down and he looks utterly baffled at what to do and goes into his Bambi routine.

He's one of the very worst Liverpool centre-halves I've ever seen!

Him & Nicky Tanner :D:D

Think he scored his only goal against us too

He's absolutely toilet mate. Distribution is awful, positionally clueless.

Do you think Liverpool would sign him today for £18million if they had the option to?

I agree with you though, there are better defenders in the league than Stones. I'd go

Koscielny
Terry
Jagielka
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Mertesaker
...to name some of the ones I can remember

Disagree on Jagielka and Mertesaker. Stones was more consistent across last season than Jags

I really think the only way to stop this media frenzy/love-in is to come out with an official statement to the press saying Stones isn't for sale at any price.

The longer we put that off, then it means Stones does have a price tag (naturally, every player in World Football bar Messi does), and if released a statement it would be the point of no return, so to speak.

But surely the board realise that he's already worth £40mil easy, and we should be demanding much more than that to sell him this summer. His value can only go up, he's got a 4 year contract with us, and so far it looks like we're sticking to our guns.

But the speculation will only stop if we come out and say 'no sale at any price'. And unfortunately, I don't think we will do that.

because we are nowhere near champions league or challenging for the title. That is stepping up your career. Hell even competing in europe is stepping up and we have gone backwards in that respect in 12 months.

In fact we have been nowhere near those levels since the bloody 80's!
...... why can't he be part of a team here at Everton that will challenge. How the hell do you know that in 2 years time we won't be. In my honest opinion, i think we are 3 or 4 players short of really going places (if nobody leaves). I do honestly think that. A player doesn't have to sign for the champions to step up his career.

If I was Roberto I would tell them that anytime anyone from Chelsea makes public remarks about Stones, it will cost them an additional £5 million on top of whatever fee we'd be willing to sell him for, if we'd even sell him at all.

Yeah he's just tore up the Euros like no other kid had ever done at the age of 18, taking on the best European international players like it was a kick about in the park but Ashtonian didn't rate him clearly.

Says more about Ashtonian I guess though than Rooney that.
Doug he scored a hat trick in his first Euro championship game for them he is now at a veteran stage his performances speed wise have diminished still a world class player though, and can play behind the striker or as a striker where was DM playing him on the wing!

not leaning on selling him. I am leaning on a valuation on him. If it is met then sell him, if not then that is the minimum we sell for now or in the future, subject to value going up on our end.
Who could we replace him with? Can you name another quality centre half who
a.) Is under 30 years old (i.e. would be quality for the entirety of a long term contract)
b.) Would want to come here when we're not playing European football
c.) Wouldn't have ridiculous wage demands.
d.) Is anywhere near as good as Stones

I legitimately can't name one who fits the bill. If we miss out on Europe next season, it will make sense to sell Stones for all involved. For now we have a young centre half who's miles ahead of anyone else his age and is one of the first names on our team sheet getting valuable experience, and who has 4 years left on his contract. Wouldn't make sense for us or for Stones to sell IMO.

Ideally - Everton should do the following.
1) Lodge a formal complaint with the FA
2) When this inevitably achieves nothing... state that we will not be dealing with Chelsea (buying/selling players) and will be giving them the bare minimum away allocation for the next x number of seasons. Make it clear that any club acting like this in the future will receive the same deal.

Not sure I find it quite so funny, He is worth what the buyer is prepared to pay and more importantly the ammount the selling club will except. Do you really think Everton will turn down £34,000,000 ?? for a £3,000,000 outlay ?? I dunno.... Be nice to think we would but It depends what war chest we have already.
He worth the value we price him at if we want to sell him which at the moment is no!

Properly irritating when clubs put in derisory bids and start talking about our players as if they have already signed (aka Gary Cahill). I think we should offer £10M for Eden Hazard and get Hibbo to start saying that he is looking forward to linking up with the little Belgian.

How do i know? because we are always 3-4 players short. And this thread is about chelsea trying to sign another one of them!

As a said we havent challenged in 30 years, we have a board with zero investment, run down stadium with no sign of a new one, no sign of new investment and despite the no need to sell, we arent exactly spending much money either.

Seriously mate, doing the whole what ifs? yet its quite clear we arent going to compete, especially as the teams above us sign our best players.
