John Stones transfer saga

If we sell we will look like idiots. What does he mean nothing has changed? Offer us more money?
We've said we don't want to sell, doesn't make us look like idiots should we sell. It just means either the circumstances changed, or when we weighed up the offer in a cost benefit analysis we were better off selling. As I said before, if we sell it will be for a significant wad of money.
I'm not concerned, either we sell and get a bucketload of money or we keep him. Easy as that

We aren't in the luxurious position of holding on to a young centre back when £30 million quid is being bandied about. Respect to Stones for being proper about it - it must be hard when such a big opportunity is unfolding and the media are all over it - but surely he will go?

Would be a shame, anyway.

45 hours to go before Chelsea put their bid in.

Papers said it would be within 48 hours. Oooh lets see if they're right...:coffee:

It's not a clear statement he's not for sale though is it ?
Because every player has a price in the world mate if Chelsea, Utd or city came in with something crazy like 60m plus we probably would sell as most teams would. Juve sold Vidal and is selling pogba for crazy money

Correct. What would constitute a price suitable right now for Stones to sell, as opposed to hold him for a couple of seasons more, when he will most probably be worth a substantial amount more?

I don't think we can sell now. Just not the right time this close to the start of the season. Was just pointing out why the club hasn't come out and said " we won't sell for any price"

Oh good god.

Chelsea will make a £26m bid for John Stones within the next 48 hours. José Mourinho remains desperate to sign the Everton defender and has not been put off by Roberto Martínez’s anger over the battle for his signature. The Premier League champions had a bid of £20m turned down by Martínez last week with the Spaniard furious with Mourinho, his Chelsea counterpart, for openly talking about the move. Yet the Portuguese has seen his defenders struggle so far during the club’s North America tour and will push on with his pursuit of the England international.

Stones, 21, is understood to be keen on a transfer to the Premier League champions and knows the option of playing Champions League football next season will ultimately be too good an offer to refuse. Relations between the two clubs remain strained and hearing Gary Cahill, who has played with Stones for England, commenting last week how beneficial it would be to have him at Stamford Bridge did not go down well on Merseyside.

Mourinho, however, has not been deterred and is hopeful a fee can be agreed before the start of the Premier League season on 8 August. Stones is seen as the perfect long-term replacement for John Terry. The fee could go higher than £30m depending on how long Martínez digs his heels in.
