John Stones transfer saga

For you being key there.

But for most, he wasn't. As the article indicates in fan comments.

The fact is - if a former player comments on the most topical EFC issue at the moment, then we'll put that story up as is. We can't go selectively editing what people say.

Regarding it's in the forum, why on the home page? By that logic, we shouldn't have a home page because every topic will be discussed in the forum... Not to mention some visit the home page and not the forum.

I don't have a problem with the story being posted to the front page, but I think paraphrasing it as "Stones will end up at a big club" is a poor summation of what he was saying. He explicitly said Stones should get a full season as a starter before we start talking about a move to a big club.

Subjective isn't it?

He said the phrase in the title twice, and most leading publications went with the same as we did - examples;

Sure i have answered this?

I have!

Because he would be cheap, experienced, won trophies (which most if not all our squad hasnt between them) and would play as second choice behind the first choice defenders.

All in all a good deal, and certainly he may have injury troubles but considering alcaraz injured himself simply by being on the pitch, still an upgrade.
An upgrade to replace John Stones are you taking the proverbial?

It definitely is subjective, I only say that because I think it provoked a harsh response to Distin's words, which was no doubt the intention of most outlets that ran similar headlines.

You're absolutely correct that the title was in keeping with contemporary journalistic standards... which is telling in and of itself.

Why don't Everton just kill this by saying that John Stones is not for sale but recognise that it is recognised that every player has a price. It will take £65 million clear, breaking the British transfer record for us to even consider it and asking Chelsea to bid that amount or stop messing about.

Chelsea will bid again and the next one will be about 27m and then 28.5 m and then 30m and in small chunks hoping to entice Stones and wear Evertons resolve down.
I would say if Everton genuinely don't want to sell they should quote 50m and simply say all bids below this will be rejected...it worked for Liverpool.

Chelsea doing what any 'big' team does, and bullying their 'small' rivals, £25m is a disgrace, they know it, we know it, but John Stones? If he wants to, will be more unsettled than ever. Season starts in 10 days, and we're in the midst of another disruptive start due to money. £35m+ and he'll leave i'd imagine. Holding on for 12 months and having a successful Euro's would see us gain £15m imo.

The only other "angle" would have been Distin saying Stones will one day become a top defender.

Having actually seen the interview, he was asked whether Stones will become a top defender he said;

“He hasn’t played a full season yet. He needs to become a little more experienced, understanding of the Premier League and know a bit more about himself”

But twice, he said it was inevitable a top club will come in and he'll end up at a top club.

Personally think any effort to skirt away from that heading would be emotive and over sensitive.

Look sod it not bothered about Dustbin - if we were a small club he was happy to stay with us- On top money - get on with Bournmouth in the championship next season - thanks for your services goodbye! End off!

Got to be holding out for a good deal more yet.

35m plus going off what they pay for other players and what other team's are throwing at the likes of Sterling, Luke Shaw, etc.
