John Stones transfer saga

The worry is both City and Utd would surely be interested as well and Chelsea have maybe tried to steal a March on them a year earlier than the others had planned.

Personnaly I'm not worried about the fee, we should be looking at £40m eas from anyone one of them, it's just come around to soon I'd say.

We'd never sell him now. He's guaranteed to have another brilliant and improved season and then we're looking at 40+ easily.

The board apparently value him at around £35 million - according to an Echo article a few months back - so this bid looks like it's designed to agitate Stones into asking for the move. If he does go, that money -- in theory -- could go on the number 10 position, new keeper and a decent CB.

But it's Stones, he's utterly boss and I'd much prefer for it him to be playing in our shade of Royal Blue

The size of the first bid is almost irrelevant, it's just to declare their interest.
Pretty sure City's first bid for Sterling was similar and look how high they went.

I'd begrudgingly accept £35m. That'd allow us to replace him with a decent defender and still leave about £30m to be spent on other operating costs.

Our chairman will have jizzed in his pants at news of this, we might finally get something like what he was worth when you stole him from us now. On to stones if he doesn't think it's the right move for him and his family and his development as a footballer he won't move, even if they offer to triple his wage.

Out of everyone in the current squad, Stones should be the last person we consider selling.

He is going nowhere this summer unless they bid £40 - £50 million plus.

he wont go anywhere this summer, can see them making another couple of bids then coming back next summer and making him a priority.

Jose is the best defensive manager in the world, John is a good lad and very level headed but I can see him wanting to work with Jose.

Plus a 100K per week contract will help him make his decision to leave easier.

I can see that as well mate, the one thing in mitigation going for us would be his young age, the fact he surely wont crack the Chelsea first team this season and the Euros are next summer and he needs to play.

£40m starting bid, it should be the standard opening offer. They can have him for £50m, hes boss and i want him to stay but if we get £50m for him, we can buy a new ground.
