John Stones transfer saga

From an emotional point of view that's what just about every supporter would say but from the practical business point of view if he doesn't sign a new contract before the end of the next season or if one is put on the table and he says not going to sign one the the money men will say he has to be sold
emotional points of view are the only ones i listen to. there is no business without peoples love of the game. Stones here for another four years is worth losing thirty odd million.

Someone made a very good point the other day, about how selling your best players to the top teams never really works, and how Liverpool would have been far worse off had they sold Gerrard for big money about 10 years ago. I can't really argue with that because it is the truth, however if we were to buy say Shaqiri (LW), Mertens (ACM) and Dragovich (CM) with the Stones money, then I think our team would be stronger than if we just kept John Stones. Chelsea's team may also become stronger as a result of buying Stones, but so would our's.

Or, we could keep Stones and have ambition and go and sign those players anyway?.

We can all dream.

Actually it was the scout we employed who went to Chelsea who spotted Coleman!

Paul Cook had a large part to play in all of it to be fair. Essentially, the fact that Sligo Rovers (my hometown team) were being managed by a scouser is the reason we were made aware of Coleman.

I'm wrong above. What you were saying about the scout that went to Chelsea (Mick Doherty) looks to be the main reason we ended up with Seamie. The scout's son was also playing for Sligo Rovers at the time...Sean Doherty.

I do not know who, but our chief scout in Colemans era maybe Stones too was snapped up by Chelski!

point is though that as it is Everton setting the price it isn't just a question of looking at whether we can snap up someone else who looks ok and have cash over. Chelsea know their domination could depend on snapping up someone like Stones. this may sound over the top but why else is their pursuit so relentless. his value could be the revenue major trophies will bring in, the commercial cash from marketing a potential England captain and knowing they could still prob sell on to the likes of Barca or Madrid.
And thta is why his price so so high at such a young age yeah.

But the novelty of having money in the game is being able to sign whoever you want to sign, sadly as we are currently only 2 players in and the lowest spending team in the league we, as fans, have no idea what that is like.

With respect, in a climate where Raheem Sterling is sold for £49m and David Luiz goes for £50m, I'd say that would be woefully bad business.

We are under no pressure to sell. None at all. We hang on until bids stop coming in (and keep only our 2nd senior CB) OR we wait for silly money of £50m plus. To do otherwise is to sacrifice sound business acumen on the altar of a fast buck.

Sterling, I agree but he's an attacker so goals inflate his importance.

Luiz is a different kettle of fish. It has nothing to do with talent, but more down to his profile, the club after him (PSG), and success he's had. Luiz is a Fifa footballer...one of those players the kidz love, has boss stats, but in the real world not very good. He sells shirts.

Stones is non of this but the better player.
