Evans is no where near as bad as many on here make out. Sure he's no world beater but he is decent back up
I really think he'd have been great to compliment Stones and Jags. As a replacement for Stones, though, not good enough.

Kompany, Pique and Pogba for Stones. I would be happy with thatjust putting it out there.
Imagine selling stones, signing 2 centre halves and a midfielder. And that was it.......
So basically did wait for the stones sale to sign our players and the board spent very little again
Mourinho is desperate for Stones cos he knows world class centre half partnerships are really hard to find but crucial to success. Liverpool when they were decent always snapped up the most solid footballing centre halves available, United snapped up Pallister ahead of them and it was part of the shift in power. Confidence builds from this position for the entire team. Our early season form last year proves that and I can't think of a successful team that didn't have two class footballing centre halves, a decent keeper and a goalscorer. Stones is one of the best I have seen for decades, keep hold of him and find a consistent partner for him (once Jags has gone) and who knows what we can achieve (decent keeper needed). We haven't had this prospect for thirty years. Not for sale! No money can replace the joy of watching someone who could be one of the best in the world in an Everton shirt.for once Dave every word you said above is correct - absolutely spot on. Stones is good , potentially very good but he's a centre half. Sure you need good defenders but they do not influence a game in the way a good No.10 or a goalscorer would. If , as seems the case, BK is unwilling or can't deliver much needed player investment ( and won't give up his train set to someone that can ) then we need to fund much needed purchases with sales. £30 million + can buy 3 very decent players.
lol you knew what i meant.Kompany, Pique and Pogba for Stones. I would be happy with that
at the end of the day Stones commands a high fee because he is good enough to play first choice for the next 10-15 years potentially. The problem is chelsea can pay that sort of fee.Mourinho is desperate for Stones cos he knows world class centre half partnerships are really hard to find but crucial to success. I've seen cenre halves who looked decent elsewhere come and go for 30 years. it isn't that easy and at the moment i don't think the club can afford to take the chance. a player is always an asset unless we think he may have peaked. he may go but it won't be good for the club.at the end of the day Stones commands a high fee because he is good enough to play first choice for the next 10-15 years potentially. The job of the club is to sign another player who can replicate that, so we aren't losing a top talent per ce.
Tbh my primary concern is that whatever you think of Evans talents on the pitch, he is rarely fit enough stay on it for a full game, week on week.
Over the past couple of seasons he's played less league minutes than Sturridge whose legs are made of cheese string (evans 2475 vs Sturridge 3019). For a defender that is awful reliability when one of the ley strengths of a backline is consistent playing time to build up an instinctive rapport
Anyhow that is probably off topic - John Stones is great and I hope we keep him even if it is just for a year.
60 million!
It never is good to lose a talented player, for every osman there is a barkley in the game. But fact is stones like anyone else has a price and chelsea can afford to meet that price if they so wish to.I've seen cenre halves who looked decent elsewhere come and go for 30 years. it isn't that easy and at the moment i don't think the club can afford to take the chance. a player is always an asset unless we think he may have peaked. he may go but it won't be good for the club.
30 million Rio Ferdinand went for 32 million 13 years ago with inflation double that fee and we may listen!I wouldn't like to see Stones go for any amount of love or money, he's growing into his role quite nicely at the moment and could be pivotal this season. But I really can't see us refusing an offer of £30m, unfortunately for us we can't turn down that cash. I'd love to see him stay!! Fingers & toes crossed!!
where do you find Colemans? they are a rare find!Or 1,000 Seamus Colemans.
Or 1,000 Seamus Colemans.
point is though that as it is Everton setting the price it isn't just a question of looking at whether we can snap up someone else who looks ok and have cash over. Chelsea know their domination could depend on snapping up someone like Stones. this may sound over the top but why else is their pursuit so relentless. his value could be the revenue major trophies will bring in, the commercial cash from marketing a potential England captain and knowing they could still prob sell on to the likes of Barca or Madrid. It never is good to lose a talented player, for every osman there is a barkley in the game. Even messi has a price in the game, everyone is for sale. You just need to spend the right amount to get them. Sad but at least we do have a tendancy to fleece teams for as much as we can, bar arteta.
