Oh I think so too.

But my fear is that Stones going or not is the difference between Yarmolenko or Lennon.

I think you're wrong.
That might just be wishful thinking though.

Come the end of the transfer window I hope to be able to create the biggest multi quote vault ever.

Chances are I'll just creep into a corner though

As far as Stones goes though, I believe it's down to him and the manager, noone else

If they're prepared to offer 40 now, imagine what they'll offer next year after the increased money and another imperious year in royal blue. Why would we sell now if that's the case

I hope I'm wrong mate.

We'll make signings.

There may well be some thinking along the lines of "we'll hang fire unless Chelsea make a crazy offer", in which case our targets change, but regardless of the Stones situation, we'll make signings

Finally some sense. This pretty much sums up modern football. And we need to accept the facts.

Stones is immense, and obviously of "the right character", so he will not sulk at the first chance.
But eventually, if Martinez feels the price is too good to turn down + Stones wants to go = Chelsea will get him.

We will survive anyway, as we always do. Just make sure we get twice his actual current value.
That being said, I truly hope he stays, as he is one of the best centrebacks ive ever seen!

But long-term, to progress from 5-10th into champions league, we need a fixed source of income to support building a winning team with higher quality than our current squad. We need world-beaters, and we cannot afford them. Now, if we actually were able to hold on to the likes of Lukaku, Stones, Barkley etc we might get close, but the challenge will always be to keep our star-performers happy enough, while at the same time building the "war-chest" (where is the Arteta money Bill? ;) ) See Arsenal f.ex, who has been able to buy on the cheap, develop players, build a new stadium, and are now in a position to buy world-beaters.

Fact is: Unless you are top-4 regularly, you will never be able to hold on to your star assets for a prolonged period of time when the bigger guns come calling. You need to develop your business model first. That is the reality of football (and western capitalism in general).

PS: Martinez will make his signings anyway, but not sure about the quality though. (f.ex Mori who seems a little....wank?)

Transfer business through the press, fkn blatant now:

Chelsea want to see whether or not John Stones asks to leave Everton before submitting a fourth offer for the central defender.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Chelsea have had a third bid of £30 million turned down by Everton and are now considering their next move.

Chelsea are willing to go higher to land Stones before the transfer window shuts, but are waiting to see whether their latest rejected bid prompts any reaction from the 21-year-old.

John Stones has been the subject of a third unsuccessful bid from Chelsea

The Premier League champions believe that they have demonstrated their commitment to Stones, with bids of £20m, £26m and £30m, and are now interested to see whether the player is equally determined to move to Stamford Bridge.

Everton continue to publically insist that Stones is not for sale, but the Goodison Park club could struggle to hold on to the England international if he makes it clear he wants to go.

Manager Roberto Martinez has praised Stones for the way he has handled Chelsea’s interest and it remains to be seen whether or not the player is willing to push for a move.

Doubts have been raised over whether Stones would play regularly for Chelsea this season, but manager Jose Mourinho is convinced he can make an immediate impact on the team.

Even if he keeps his counsel and refuses to rock the boat, then Chelsea are likely to bid again for Stones before the transfer window shuts but their position would be strengthened by a request to leave.

It's not about that though, we shouldn't be selling for ANY money, we should be showing ambition and the will and want to build a team around some of our best in Stones, Barkley and Lukaku.

We don't NEED to sell.

Why is everyone so fascinated by money? Firstly, money in the bank doesn't help our starting team, and secondly anyone we buy will be over inflated and not as good.

Small time attitude from so many of our fans. It's sick. Grow a pair Everton. If we sell, I'm done, what's the point?

That Chelsea paid journo Matt Law should better hope he is never going to meet any Evertonians in his life again. Something bad may happen to him I guess...

would never advocate anything like that, we should be above even suggesting it.

But agree with you that the hack is getting favours for writing such guff. Reeks of agenda.

Good post that mate, I was of the 'get 40m for him and imagine who we can get' brigade initially. You are right though, why should we except that our brightest young player will go this season or any other? We have progressed massively since it happened with Rooney. Nil satis
