John Stones transfer saga

Thought I'd have a look at what some Chelsea fans are saying about Stones. It all runs along the lines of:

"£20/30/40/X million?! It's only because he's English! He's not worth that, Varane/Laporte/Otamendi is a better defender and would be available for less! Despite the fact that I'm only basing this off of my FM/FIFA knowledge, I've never actually seen them play more than a couple of times in the Champions League, Stones is overpriced!"
Tbf they got Costa for 32m and Fabregas for ~28 last summer and for Arsenal spent ~35m on Alexis Sanchez - when you put it in the context of those then Stones probably seems expensive if you don't watch him regularly.

I very much doubt we'd spend all the proceeds of any Stones sale. The bigger other prize though will be that Kenwright will retain what's left of the tv revenue and dispense of it for the boards own benefit.

Oh, if Stones does go we certainly won't be spending all the proceeds of his sale. The best we could hope for is spending something like £15m at the most, on someone like Ashley Williams, but in him we'll have a replacement.

Kenwright will keep quiet about the rest of the money from the sale and he'll continue to keep quiet about the TV money (like he's been doing all summer).

Yet you forget to mention his tough stance on Baines - and the top deal he got on Felli took Unt to the cleaners they could have bough Felli cheaper two weeks earlier on his buy out clause - No in defence of BK he has learnt a lot since the bad days as you promote!
He still sold Fellaini. That's the point. All these players who are not for sale being sold....no wonder Chelsea are pissing themselves laughing at Everton's "principled" stance.

Of course, that's fair. But a good way to go about this is to ask a fan of the club how much they would pay for their best English player.

Ask a Chelsea fan how much they'd pay for a twenty year old Terry, or a twenty year old Lampard. Ask a RS how much they'd pay for a twenty year old Gerrard. Ask a United fan, or even yourself, how much you'd pay for Rooney if you could redo his transfer, knowing how good he's become.

I'd certainly say £50m would have been a fair price for Rooney, considering the player he is. Apply that principle to Stones. Yes, he's not the finished article, but if he keeps on, he's going to be the next Terry/Ferdinand and he's going to be vital to whatever club he is at (be it us or not us) for over ten years.

To make a positive point, I reckon that if the lad himself wanted to go he'd have stuck a transfer request in at the first or second bids.

That's not happened, it's stated he's not for sale, so I'm remaining quietly confident he won't do a Lescott.

That in mind, Martinez did say that he was "affected" by the "speculation", so there's always the chance that he did consider, or even ask for the move.

Come on lads, regardless of your views of the commercial aspect of the club, we're all blues and want Stones to stay I'm sure.

Folk will all have different outlook, let's not berate each other for it.
