John Stones transfer saga

But there are 2 differences there.

1 : Bale and Suarez were out and out match winners who's goals gave their teams numerous points a season. As good as Stones is so far and possibly will be he's not on that level whatsoever.

2 : The respective managers wasted that money on overpriced rubbish, doesn't mean Martinez will.

They were 2 of the best players in the world at their peaks, Stones isn't. A solid experienced defender could replace him now (without being the obvious long term replacement) and the extra money could be spent on the areas of squad we need players in.

It's all hypothetical and probably wishful thinking but i'd say it's possible if the money is spent wisely we could improve the overall quality of the squad right now.

We shouldn't have to sell Stones in order to do that but thats the way it is so Martinez has 2 choices. Sell stones and spend lots, or keep him and spend little.

Fair points but this bit about improving the squad while it might be true would almost certainly weaken the first team, and that's what we want to be strengthening, those who'll play week in week out and make a positive impact on our chances of success. Like John Stones.

"Our situation has been very clear from the beginning. We are not a selling club who will lose our best performers."

Roberto Martinez.

No need to sell. The player will be better for a season playing regularly, his price will only go up. Auction him next year if we must for about £50M, but let's tell Chelsea to get stuffed.........

If he did he never resigned, untill Man U came calling,- nothing to do with us selling a star player like Rooney etc, RM is so adamant not for sale - If Stones is sold now before sept the 1st his position would be untenable imo!
No chance. If Stones goes it'll be as it was when Moyes said that type of stuff: player says he wants to leave. All bets are off at that point. Nothing to do with RM.

...only over Lescott.....oh and erm, Rooney.

It is what it is - no go on a sale.....until Judas pipes up.

Is right mate. Those trying to paint Martinez into a corner over this are basically just being driven by an agenda. Even tho most anti-Martinez poster must admit that we'd be stupid not to sell him if he decides to sulk and go on 'strike.'

I would be astonished if Stones did that.

Me too mate. I reckon he's staying. All the sensationalist media can come up with is "he's open to a move." In other words; he'd consider it if a fee was agreed.

EDIT: @roydo ffs. Forgot to quote/reply you ;)

Thought I'd have a look at what some Chelsea fans are saying about Stones. It all runs along the lines of:

"£20/30/40/X million?! It's only because he's English! He's not worth that, Varane/Laporte/Otamendi is a better defender and would be available for less! Despite the fact that I'm only basing this off of my FM/FIFA knowledge, I've never actually seen them play more than a couple of times in the Champions League, Stones is overpriced!"
