Still glad he didn't go to Chelsea.

Yes he's very decent with the ball at his feet half way up the field.
When it comes to actual defending he may be the TAA of centrehalves though.
With their attack and MF, only City can afford to play such a poor defender - he works for them...he wouldn't have worked for us on a long term basis - he can't defend too well.
He was Moyeses last gift to the bank balance.

Always had the potential to reach the very top of the game and is showing that right now.

Remember being in the Top balcony for one game and started to do a bit of player watching off the ball, his positional sense and footballing brain was outrageous for somebody so young. Took him longer to settle at City than I thought he would but was always destined for bigger things than a mediocre Everton.

I think some of the fans dissent was not necessarily aimed truly at him, Martinez refused to adapt to the fact that teams had sussed us out and were easy pickings when playing it around the back. Stones was an easy target on the pitch because he truly wanted to play that way and was trying things.

I recall being at a West Ham game in November 2014 and he tried to play out of the back, and fans started to boo and whistle, and he turned around and make some sort of exasperation-type gesture. He is a good player.

He told the Park End dars to calm down, unfortunately, they still get on at our players now and never learned from this.

If I remember rightly the crowds reaction was more of a panic no boos at all and stones reaction was more of a calm down motion to the park end

I would have loved to have seen John Stones and Shane Duffy as our centre back pairing

You're literally getting everything with that combo

Stones playing his lovely football and Duffy just being a big unit that'll wreck you

A proper double act

In a chaotic world, your unwavering love for Shane Duffy is a beautiful constant

I genuinely think that pairing would have been great mate

They compliment each other perfectly

Stones is this skilful technical footballer who can both defend and play the ball to feet, whilst Duffy is a strong defensive player who is good in the air

Combined I think that's a defensive duo that could do everything

Indeed. Nobody doubts that Stones is a good ball player. But a defender? Nah, not for me. Not top level. He's been decent for England without becoming indispensable for them. As recently as the last World Cup, people were openly saying his position was vulnerable. You always sense there's a mistake in him. City have the luxury of pushing him further up the pitch.

I remember the park end getting on his back, when he was playing the ball out of defence, Stones turned and told them to calm down, Fact.
