Tbf on Lineker (and I admit I may be biased given my username) think he has always been v complimentary about Stones but he more than most will have known the danger of bigging up a young player on a few good appearances only for him to fall flat.

But the thing that has me convinved about Stones is less his ability than his mentality - he's got the self confidence to not be fazed when he makes a mistake but the sense to work hard on correcting them

Totally agree mate. And do you know what mate I think that goes for the whole lot of our lads who play for England. No up there own arses kind of thing. For what its worth imo Baines stood out like the class player he is tonight, oozed confidence, class and style and workrate. When Barkley came on I was just thinking don't pass it to any meff as he's infinitely better than most of em put together. Stones at rb? Is right Hodgson you old mincing beaut, I still expected him to score and give Hodgson a nice v sign knowing that Jones will be going to the World Cup. England for me is an inconvenience to the pure love and buzz I get from Everton, but when our lads are playing its great to see them not only do well, but look like the only lads who have got a clue how to play football with the other bells they have the unfortunate pleasure they have to play with until they stick on our royal blue jersey again.

It's been a really good week for Everton and their players from last season - Stones & Deulofeu getting their debuts, Barkley another cap, Lukaku his hattrick, Jags a goal with Baines two assists.

Agree about the impact of a manager's faith but think it applies to all ages although more noticeable with the kids. Of course some get too full of themselves and they stop putting in the required effort but for most it only improves their performances.

bang on mate, they look like the type of players England have when they actually look capable and competent of achieving something more than just the usual quarter final

I know it's old fashioned but i love the fact they all genuinely seem to want to play for their country and get joy from it rather than appearing to just do it to improve their marketing potential.

For the simple fact that strikers are much more valuable financially, yes.

Wouldn't like to make the choice, think they are both going to be great players.

But if had to would choose Stones as he's already an Everton player, much as I love Lukaku and know that financially he probably will be worth the most. If it was Rom who was our player and Stones the loannee the answer would be the reverse.
