John Stones

I'm sure Hodgson is regretting his squad choice more every day.

I think he's left himself a nice little escape Clause with taking stones and stating jones fitness will be assessed.

Easy to say he didn't think jones was fit enough.

Don't think he will do that mind. Jones and smalling are the luckiest 2 footballers on the planet being in this WC squad!

This is a massive tease! So he has gone on the plane with the squad, and was brought on Friday night.

For those of us with a bet on this is agony!

To be honest we're behaving like some of the clubs we despise with Stones. Clearly he's an outrageous talent but he's only just started playing in the prem. How must the likes of Shawcross, Dawson, Caulker feel? Not only have two United subs with terrible seasons got ahead of them, but some kid from Everton has made the list ahead of players playing well every week season after season.

Dawson is turrible. I have no idea who Caulker is. Shawcross is decent but a red card waiting to happen.

The jag will be sharing CB positions with Stones for the nxt 3-4 years imo. Within 18 months Stones will be partnering someone, probably Cahill, for England.

Agree with the caulker shout but Dawson is average and shawcross is a yard dog.

And Smalling is better? He's had a terrible season. Stones has played about ten senior games and he's on the verge of a world cup squad? Yes he has more talent than the rest combined but he'll be ridiculously raw.

Besides my main point is that fans of Stoke, Cardiff etc. will not see it this way, theyll see their top English players overlooked for two United reserves and a kid from Everton. Theyll feel the same way we did when Jags and Baines were getting overlooked for a geriatric Carragher, crocked Ledley King, ex big club Warnock etc.

Who cares about how Stoke fans feel?

Most of the yard dogs mentioned can't pass a ball 15 yards and turn like the ferry! it's international football, you need to be able to play with the ball.

Jones can play right back, centre half and holding mid, Smalling can play right back and centre half. Clearly, both average players but if Glen Johnson gets injured one of these will replace him

Stones can only play centre half, he is not a right back

This is why Woy picked the squad he did. Post World Cup I fully expect Stones to be fast tracked to replace Jags

...I'm one with a bet. It was almost certainly down when the 22 was announced, so it would be a very pleasant and totally unexpected surprise if it didn't turn out to be the case. We all know Stone's worth, but to be fair it was natural that the likes of Jones and Smalling were selected ahead of him. Those 2 are Premiership winners with England experience. I came close with my bet, but that's what happens when you have an interest.

Reason I registered to respond to this comment.

John won't be an England regular in 18 months as Jagielka will perfect his partnership with Gary Cahill. John Stones will likely be an England regular in 2-3 years.

you forgot to add the word 'badly' at the end.

I know what you mean mate, but I just have a sneaky feeling there will be a twist in the tale for this one. The fact that he has gone to the USA makes me think Jones isn't right.
