John Stones

John won't be an England regular in 18 months as Jagielka will perfect his partnership with Gary Cahill. John Stones will likely be an England regular in 2-3 years.
That pair of yard dogs cant even perfect a 5 yard pass, stones is already better than both of them put together

Woy is a football dinosaur, Smalling and Jones should be nowhere near the WC squad. This is why England won't get past the group stage.

But can he make amendments to the squad at this point? I think they had to hand in the ultimate list of 23 and Stones is not among them, no? Even if Chamberlain injures himself, they can't take anyone to replace him now at least that's my understanding.

You can replace a player getting injured right up to the WC starting I believe.

Jones looked ok last night tbf and he is versatile, smalling showed how poor he really is! My issue is both going. If utd go with them two next season at CB (which I hope they do) they will struggle to even match this years lofty 7th place!

We all know Stones will be amazing (he already is).

I feel for Phil Jones - the lad is extremely talented but has been played in that many positions over the last couple of seasons it's affected his development. Sometimes right back, sometimes centre back and sometimes holding midfielder. He's capable of playing them all but needs a position (centre back) to stick to and learn completely. For some reason it's in my mind that he's also been a little unlucky with injuries (I might be wrong with that though). He's no where near as bad as some are making out. Was fantastic when he was at Blackburn.
Him and Stones together would be a really good combination as both can defend and use the ball well.

Ive slated the guy numerous times but to be fair you are most probably right, hes ended up being a jack of all trades rather than a master of one. This is where he could do with a Roberto type manager to get him in the team in his correct position and give him encouragement etc. That player from Blackburn may well be found again then.

I agree that Phil Jones was a fantastic prospect at Blackburn but he has stalled at Man u and that will be down to playing different positions. Deffo would have him at Everton but I believe Man u still have faith in him.

I know we have

Jagielka
Distin
Duffy
Browning
Alcaraz

And with stones that makes 6 centre backs. But distin will be gone in a season or two, alcaraz isnt good enough and shouldd be offloaded.

Obviously jagielka as captain and senior centre back will be here until retirement. That leaves duffy and browning -- will they be the ones to partner stones long term?

I think martinez will slowly phase out distin and alcaraz and see if browning or duffy can step up.

Who do you think his ideal partner would be? Id like to see us go young and english again, gomez, lascalles or dier perhaps?

Hope that either/both Browning or Duffy can make it - have a bit more faith the former will be a "Martinez" player than the latter though. Was impressed with Gomez in the England games, would be interesting to see if he is open to a move.

I wish people would stop hyping this kid out of the water. I fear we are putting far too much pressure on him. He's got all the attributes but he's still young and learning.

He's ready to take Everton and England by storm in the near future but if you think he won't make mistakes at his age you're in for a shock and then what, he'll be crucified as always happens.

Too much expectation too soon at least let him get a full top flight season under his belt before proclaiming him the new Beckenbauer.

Beckenbauer? Hes the new rio ferdinand mate.

Think stones wil be fine, look at how hes stepped up from barnsley to us and us to england....pirlo penalty included.
