John Stones

He does everything that Varane at Real can do. But better.

Kid will go to the very top

Not being funny but i was thinking that.
When you see Varane mentioned, players like Zouma and Marquinhos are ALWAYS mentioned alongside him, but not John Stones. Why not? He's every bit as good as them, and will go on to be a player thats the same level, if not better than all those mentioned. He's that good.

I don't think I want him getting mentioned too much... I get nervous the likes of Utd, Chelsea and City will come sniffing around.

I fear we are in for a horrible summer with this lad, can see a few clubs being after him and testing the water. I think we simply have to keep him above all other players in our squad.

He will be starting for England within 12 months, he is so good.

Will never happen with Hodgson in charge. Too many players at Chelsea United or Liverpool for Stones to ever get in the middle. Hodgson and Cappelo before him would put any of Jones, Smalling, Kelly (if he was still at Liverpool) Eric Dier, Flanagan, Cahill, or Chambers ahead of him. If you play for one of the media sides, you get in the England team. he might get a few goes at Rightback whilst some clown like Glen Johnson is injured, but regardless of how utterly superior he is to all of those players above an England manager will not make him first choice at the age he is purely because he plays for Everton. If he moved this summer to United or City he'd be first choice immediately. That is the logic of the England selection process and that is why we won't ever win an international tournament again until the England manager, FA, and the media (who are really picking the squad) crawls out the backside of the premier leagues money teams who are keeping them all in employment.

You realise that Jags and Baines are England regulars and Hodgson is clearly a fan of Stones as he's had him in every possible squad he's been available for?

And how long did it take for these players to get in? Warnock was getting picked ahead of Baines in 2010. Even now Shaw would be ahead of him if he wasn't so unfit purely on name alone. You've even got the media asking why Baines is getting picked over crocks like Kieran Gibbs. It took Cole to retire for Baines to be allowed the first team spot even though for a while he was by far one of the best full backs in Europe and easily the best in England. Similarly for Jagielka, even in his prime Carragher coming out of retirement was preferred as were a load of injured players like Ledley King and Michael Dawson. He only went to the Euros because Cahill got injured in the last game. Terry's retirement opened a spot for him in the world cup but he was dropped immediately afterwards only for injuries to Smalling and Jones to allow him back in. Stones will be lucky to get a look in the middle unless there's an injury crisis or he moves to a 'top' club. He is undoubtedly though by a long way England's best centre back.

With Cahill being dropped and the way Jags and Stones have been playing recently I wouldn't be at all surprised if Roy puts them in together. Offensively he's pretty inept imo but defensively Hodgson is a very good manager. He knows Stones is a talent.

Yeah a lot of that isn't true really. Jags has 34 England caps which is more than Cahill, and probably deserved to be dropped from the team after a mediocre World Cup and a poor start to the season.
Baines had established himself as England left back long before Cole retired. He only retired when he wasn't chosen for the World Cup squad.
