I can only think he hasn't picked Stones for seniors because he knows he's going to pick Jagielka and Cahill and would rather Stones get game time in the 21's. Barkley being picked will hopefully give him a confidence boost which he desperately needs.
 
Hpw Roy Hodgson found four centrebacks better than John Stones I dont know. The England team should be Stones and one other. That squad is England in a nutshell though. Overhyped prodigy not playing particularly well at all? Welcome straight back Raheem and Ross. Injured and only just returned? Two spots for Carrick and Sturridge. Playing out your skin at centreback every week? No room for you i've got some United players to fit in.
 
He's only not picked Stones because he wants to reinforce the idea that he's still a U21 player and that he should be going to the the U21 World Cup.

Also LOL at Roy making him better. Roy wrecked his confidence last time and the only time you'd call Roy Hodgson to give you a pep talk is if you were leaning over the edge of a skyscraper and wanted a reason to leap.

Never said Woy would make him better- just that he clearly thinks that his form can be corrected by his own version of management. Like I say, still got the technique and whatnot and I'm sure all Evertonians would agree that his poor form is down to lack of effort/being played out of position/poorly managed by Bobby rather than for lack of any actual talent... right?

Funny how everyone on here likes to berate Ross's form (and rightly so) but then can't understand when Hodgson thinks he deserves to be berated. Agree that Woy as England manager should probably be giving him a bit more leeway, especially given how little gametime he's got for England and how lightly Bobby treats him but... he's 21 now for christ's sake. If you can't deal with a bollocking at that age then you need to have a look at yourself.

We are like an overprotective mother. No-one is going to give our kid a clip round the ear except of course us.

Ross cocked up one pass and Roy went at him like he would never go mental at another player.
 

Barkley was picked because Hodgson knew there would be a backlash if he wasn't. Barkley really doesn't deserve an international call up based on his form this season.

Stones omission is strange.When you think that Jones and Smalling are included you can only hope that Hodgson has said to him you won't get a game with the senior team so build up experience with the under 21s...but it is still unusual.
