John Stones

He's got great potential. Obviously he can do a job against standard PL opposition, but for me there's no way he threatens our (still) best CB pairing of Jags and Distin. I'm in half a mind he might be destined to play further up the pitch, tbh.

I think back to how awful Jags was when he first started playing for us. I think Stones will turn out OK, he's just got a bit of learning to do before he threatens to break up Jags and Distin......

Not sure about playing him further up though dave, that def mid slot requires impeccable positional awarness like if played well, think we just have to let him learn on the job, like the way rio did, eventually it will pay off and we will have a worldy on our hands

thought distins marking was worse than stones to be honest

Two or three times Stones seemed to be drifting well over to Distin's side and leaving us exposed with Coleman struggling to get back. Distin was just Distin, I think: comes to life when he sees fit to.

Yep. He was rank when he started.

Yeah, I accept that. It's important to remember it.

I'm not having a go, just pointing out the obvious weakness in his game atm...which is a pretty big one for an aspiring CB.
He's learning, these little things will disappear from his game the more he plays. Same as Ross really, learning every game.

What pleases me most is Bobby's continued faith in them both.

Fair dos. He looks to me like a kid with a lot of talent and who is maybe spoilt for choice: FB/CB/DM.

Think atm a lot of it may be down to his confidence being ahead of his experience, meaning he makes those mistakes which he won't when a bit more seasoned, of the 3 potential positions though, probably somewhat old fashioned like in that i think top teams are built from the back up and getting a class cb is step 1

Sylvain has a penchant for getting pulled away from centre because he likes to attack the ball and push the carrier wide once it's a certain distance from goal...as his sidekick you have to account for this as it creates a gap, even if it's just 2 yards. Jags has been dealing with it for years.

Centre half mate. All day.

He will be talked about as a great one day. Completely natural talent. Watched Everton, and as much football as possible, for 40 years. Very rarely do you see a centre half have it all at 19. This kid has most of it already, only his experience, and the arl arse tricks that come with it, are lacking.

I think because he is young and green people feel the need to point out errors and talk about his inexperience as if it makes them sound insightful.

In truth I dont think he has made any mistakes that our first choice cbs have not made regularly.

There is a need to point out because its errors that could cost us points. The lad is very composed and assured but he does tend to loose strikers, a split second lapse and the forward as gone and found space, as bony did today.

but that is something that comes with experience; however if hes playing he should be up for constructive criticism like the rest of the squad

Constructive is not what I would call the majority of the moaning posts about players in general on here.

The kind that forget to emphasise how good he is when they just want to whinge about the one big error he made against Cardiff for example.
