When a game is tight and the opposition is defending deep, us having a defender who break forwards with skill commiting opposing players to free up space is priceless and Stones will continue developing to become a pivotal player in the system we've adopted and by next season the first name on every team sheet.

Funny but didn't we sign him on as a right back?

I'd say it's worked out really well.

Up and coming players need to see that if you're good enough, the youth will get a chance to play with the first team. Not so much at other clubs.

Nah mate everything i read at the time he signed was saying rb cover long term cb like

Stones will be the best english center half since bobby moore. you'd think jags was like matthaus in possession, he's dreadful on the ball, and stones is probably better in the air and in the tackle. Jags has the edge on being in the right place due his experience and reading of the game, but I honestly wouldn't be arsed if Stones played the rest of the season
Walken mate, you are (imo) spot on

He's making mistakes you'd expect but also playing well...I'll take that all day. Jags has been a war horse for us for a long time now and if he can get a few extra games of rest while a kid with craploads of potential gets good game time (while in a winning side) then keep casting that reel. He'll need a break soon enough.

Since Jags was injured and Stones came into the team alongside Buzz:
P:6 W:6 Goals Scored:15 Goals Conceded:4

I know that correlation doesn't equal causation but nevertheless, the lad deserves every bit of credit he is getting. His ability to bring the ball out really does make a massive, massive difference to the tempo we play and the way we create chances; I honestly believe that.

The times are changing with regards to centre-backs I think some people need to get with it a bit. Being able to bring the ball out of the back is one of the main priorities now, not being a hard-working, tough tackling, non-nonsense "British" defender. That has got this nation nowhere. I'll take mistakes from Stones if it means we have a defender who can bring the ball out like he does. Not to mention the fact that Jags and Distin have both made many mistakes over the years (and they weren't 19 at the time); both in terms of positioning and giving it away in poor areas. I think some people need a slight change of perspective.
