John Stones

I love Stones, he is quality. Karanka has drilled into his Middlesbrough team to kick it out for a throw-in rather than pass it back to the keeper.

Thinking about it, it sounds crazy but there defensive record is unreal. We were the last team to score past them at the riverside.

....I'm his biggest fan but I suspect his resolve is already very much to move on.

Unfortunately I agree & can only hope its abroad rather than to another PL team.

Perhaps if jumping on a player helps to get them away from GP, we ought to try it with Kone ........

Which is a mistake 150% on Howard, as he was glued to his line. He can't "roll it to his right", as that's a thing you're taught when you're a youngster - you don't pass to a keeper on his line.

If Howard doesn't offer the pass to the right, the pass isn't there, what that's gonna result is in something called a "corner kick", Dave. Stones looked towards Howard, Howard just remained in one spot for some reason, he had to do something.
He did something TWICE that's what most people are getting at him for.

By 'right' I'm saying once Stones got it onto his own right foot that should have been up the line and to safety.

...I'm afraid Kone will sit on his nice big contract for another season and look for one final pay day with a move to a lower standard.

Should've, but Howard should also not be glued as he was. At best 50/50 mistake.

Dunno how he didn't lose the ball there though, good bit of skill, as unnecessary as it was.

In case you hadn't realised, he's gone anyway. He's had a transfer request in and we are not going to get in the Champions League the way we are going. We just have time to groom or buy a replacement.

The matchgoing fans who worry about the turns in the penalty box at the end of the game can be forgiven if you think about the amount of times they have seen wins and draws given away by the defence that he is a part of - sometimes very late on in the game - and he betrays a lack of understanding with the 'calm down' gesture.

Sure the turns might add a couple of millions to his fee and we might be glad of it when he is sold. But I would have preferred seeing it in midfield.
Yeah I mean rightly or wrongly awarded his battle with an opposition player gave away a 90th minute penalty in the last game so it's no surprise the fans want to see him boot it up the pitch sometimes.

But he didnt want to punt it to safety. He wanted to get space so he could pick out a player.

And good on him.

Keep at it Stones.
Not by coming inside. That is the wrong decision. A bit of pressure on him before getting rid and that 'pick out' is charged down and we're in massive trouble...just like Coleman did against Leicester. No wonder the crowd went spare.

Well I am sorry if I like that a young player at Everton has the confidence to know he can go inside in the box and then get away from his man or if not can turn the hapless bugger again and go the other way.

As you also go on about. Its a long term thing here. Give them the confidence to show their talent and we reap the benefits. Punting at times is fine, of course, but I don't think we should whinge and moan at a great young player because he tried something risky just because another player in another game got caught out. Thats Moyes thinking that... ;)

It is naive in the extreme to be encouraging any defender to do Cruyff turns in their own 6 yard box, especially when it involves running towards their own goal. There is a time and a place for everything.

Also he didn't have to punt it. He could have clipped in to a midfielder.

I didn't say encourage him to do precisely that.

And I didn't say he had to punt it.
