John Stones

John is a gift from the footballing financial gods to us.

It will be improbable to keep him

I propose we sell him after the Euros

With the proceeds buy the Echo arena, and with the change convert it into a 50000 seater stadium.

@The Esk why do we need a takeover? We've got £50mil ish coming in from the additional TV revenues this season + a few players out of contract for wages...we should be able to increase the wages of key players by substantial amounts.

@bluestevon i think if we made a couple of key signings such as a yarmolenko and a butland then the key players would see the ambition and stay.

Stones has seen whats happened to chelsea and we are a known quantity to him so with top signings and ambition i dont think he would move.

Unless its a real madrid or barca bid.

All our competitors have TV money coming in. We need to persuade key young players that they can nurture their game and achieve success playing in front of Tim Howard.

Why do we need a takeover ? Go to the home page and read my articles going back to August - it's essential. We cannot compete nor have any chance of retaining talent without new investment, not just a change of ownership.

IMO Everton could sell both Stones and Lukaku and bring in 120m into the club.

Not many teams could turn down that type of money for 2 players and as good as they are, it would be insanity not to take it.

Although he is one of a kind, I think we would have more difficulty replacing Romelu that we would Stones. A top notch goalscorer is very hard to come by.

You don't sell your best players if you want to show ambition and have some plan for success.

Bigger picture is fine, but i think in the case of Stones he will want to see £££ and ambition and wont be so bothered about a takeover.

We can offer him a big contract and also sign players to match from overseas with the TV money anyway.

i understand that other clubs have more money but teams like city will always have more no matter what or who takes us over...they could offer £200mil for stones BUT were likely to be in the top 15 clubs for tv revenues globally and CAN provide Stones (and others) with big wages and signings to match their ambition...

other clubs in the league will have similar or more £££ perhaps but I think (perhaps naively) a couple of £20mil+ signings and a wage rise and Stonea and others will stay.....longer term takeover and investment is another story....but unless a takeover means £50mil extra on transfers (so we could have £100mil to spend) i think we could do enough to keep him anyway.

@The Esk just to follow on from that, as we have guaranteed income from TV revenues surely we could borrow against next years money and then have (lets say) £100mil.

As a very basic example we then take £80mil of that money and massively strengthen the team...and also give Stones a pay rise.

If we did that then i would hope he (and others) would see our ambition and extend their contracts. A takeover would be excellent but not 100% needed in the short term to keep players id have hoped?

No - we have to get away from borrowing. We need owners who put cash into the business not allow it out through unnecessary debt.
