John Stones

Feel sorry for Stones, if there was an actual goalkeeper behind him there'd be no general issue about the defence for the season in general, and that backpass yesterday would have been hoofed up the field/into touch. Martinez is crippling the defence, the team in general, and the fans by persisting with Timothy.

Don't feel sorry for stones, he's had a few close shaves in the past, so something like yesterday was gonna happen eventually - but that's a fair assessment; howard isn't the be-all and end-all though.

The lad looks as if he doesn't want to be there. It's not his fault, it's the clown in the nets and the manager. It's gutting.

Lescott saga all over again

except his really young, but I don't blame him. This team he has around has bags of potential to be winning every game. (debatable)

But look at us sitting at 12th and a chance to win the capital cup.

C'est la vie.

Nothing like the "impartial" national broadcaster stirring the proverbial...
Absolutely incredible.

The issue wouldn't have a-rose if fans at the ground yesterday didn't jeer the lad when he spent more than 3 seconds on the ball and then called in (that) national broadcaster calling for him to be dropped.

Not saying you were one of them, but people in glass houses...

My beef with Stones is that he clearly loves going past a player or two and picking a pass, in that case don't play centre back!
Perhaps long term, sit in front of the back four like Barry or Dier then if he loses the ball it's not likely to result in us conceding?
I know people we say then we are playing him out of position, but maybe we already are?

Er, thanks for that. Random reference to glass houses and all. My point is that the BBC are just stirring. Expect that from Talksport, personally.

Stones will probably be the best centre half this country sees for over a decade. Unfortunately though, if someone offered us silly money like £50m, he isn't really worth that to us. When you consider the likes of Williams making 15 clearances a game, not awful with his feet either, and other similar players who we could get for about a fifth of the price, it sounds like he could be easily replaced.

I don't see why centre halves shouldn't be good footballers. He needs to learn when it is inappropriate to do several cruyffs turn in his own box, but aside from that I love the fact that he can go past players and pick passes.
