Yesterday, did give me pause for thought. I've met Tim Howard and he's actually a very sound bluenose.

However, he himself needs to recognise. Yesterday was completely unnacceptable.

Theres no excuse on his part. If he watches it back. He has to agree.

I'm sure he's a well-respected bloke, and I don't for one second begrudge him for his performances down the years or think that he doesn't love the club.

But something has to give, soon, and that's down to the manager, because Howard's relationship with the fans is coming to a bitter and horrid end to what has been a great service to the club down the years.

Lukaku and Barkley were getting it in the neck last season but improved massively for this season.

Stones now getting alot of stick but will develop as a better player for the experience.

I think Stones will stay at the club but only if Howard is replaced with top quality at the very least and we make a statement signing.

John Stones was absolutely awful and played his worst game in an Everton shirt on the weekend.

There was one pass in the second half where he was near the right back position in the opposition's half and he passed it to absolutely nobody and the Everton move broke down. There wasn't an Everton player within 15m of his pass.

Secondly the Collymore article is spot on http://betting.boylesports.com/football/premier-league/toffees-youngsters-becoming-unstuck-Martinez One or two mistakes is not the end of the world, but something should be done to make sure it doesn't become a habit. The Goals Against column clearly suggest that nothing is being done. If Martinez is a really good manager, he should have put things right, but it increasingly looks like he'll stick to his strategy and 'philosophy' come hell or high water. That's just stupid in my opinion.

Thirdly, John Stones' positioning on counters have been getting worse and worse. Perhaps he is overconfident that he has it covered?

I wasn't terribly happy with his play on the second goal, either. Leaving out how slow he was to get tight to Ayew, I think he was completely in the wrong place for that whole passage of play. Our whole right side got caught upfield and the counterattack came pouring down that side, but he never shifted over to cover, relying on the central midfielders to try to deal with the wide threat while he just marked space near the penalty area.

That being said, he's 21 and that's the sort of thinking that doesn't come naturally to most defenders until they hit their mid-twenties. There aren't a lot of central defenders who have played this much at this level at his age, so i think it's natural that he'll make more mental errors than most defenders.

agreed mlyons.

the entire right side is actually really slow to react, and doesn't sense the imminent danger. Watch how quickly the swansea city players counter attack and watch how languid the pace is for Everton. It's almost like they just jog back into position. Really unacceptable. It doesn't really matter about the handball. The whole team was poor defensively and then to top it off, Stones doesn't get there quick enough and Ayew has a go. If Stones was there a bit quicker, Ayew may not have had the time to shoot.

The lad has a keeper behind him thats completly lost it, he's lost jags + baines 4 most the season, nothing against mori but he needs a leader nxt 2 him in jags + 2 b able 2 have faith in the keeper behind him, he's only 21 + probably feeling like the world is on his shoulders + with an unhappy crowd, god that is gonna get 2 u at some point. Sunday was awful + far 2 cocky but is this what the lad is being told 2 do, and is he just getting 2 scared 2 use howard or is he really just getting 2 cocky with all the hype over him, he just never seemed that kinda lad 2 me

That's a fantastic article.

From Stan's article.

Superb stuff.

John Stones

Rio Ferdinand tweeted that he was lucky to have been allowed to make mistakes while at West Ham. I’m sure the West Ham faithful who saw a cocky, confident but overplaying central defender who cost them the odd goal didn’t always agree. Rio did a wonderful bit of skill, a roundabout, on me at the Boleyn against Villa years ago, went past me a treat, but I never saw him do it at Man United where his basic excellent reading of a game was the only thing Fergie was interested in, and I’m pretty sure Fergie would have said on more than one occasion “just [Poor language removed] defend Rio, that’s what you’re paid for`”

So the notion of young players being allowed to make repeated mistakes just because they are young is not only poor coaching but immensely disrespectful to one of England’s most successful and biggest football clubs, Everton. Are we really saying it’s ok to do flicks, tricks and repeated poor decisions because it’s Everton rather than if he made the £50m move to Barca, Chelsea or Man City? That’s ludicrous!

What John needs is what Lukaku has had from Big Dunc. Someone to take him to one side and tell him he’s in the team primarily for his defensive reading and covering, and should the need arise to use skill to get himself out of dodge, then use it.

It sure is.

What he writes about Ross Barkley is very thought provoking.

And it has me edging ever closer to the plotter's position I'm afraid.
A term Dave made up because he likes to believe himself a bit too much, I'm afraid.

Nearly every "plotter" has been asking him (and obviously everyone here as well) logical question which are hard to answer, to which he just responds by saying "oh just pipe down and enjoy Martinez while he lasts"... "arguments" I guess.

It's normal to doubt the manager when he's shown no sign of changing his ways since his first year, especially when said ways clearly don't work, imo. I've been a supporter of Martinez, but recently I'm not really arsed, or at least becoming less and less so, with him, especially after the fan comments and "we haven't found a way to win at home"...

Davek'll come in and say "but what does Collymore know, the ex-RS tit" or something similar tomorrow, and claim Collymore knows nothing about football... you can quote me on this when it happens lol
