John Stones

Very good players have very bad games sometimes and last Sunday John Stones had an atrocious day.

He is a defender and his job is to prevent goals being scored against his team... that is his job. If he doesn't do that then he is not doing his job well. I don't care what else he does in a game.
He is a very talented young man but I wonder will he always be haunted by silly mistakes and poor judgement. I wonder if that is his Achilles heel ?

It is fair to point out that he is very young and still learning. It is also fair to say that he is a full international and has player over eighty games for Everton.
There is a strong argument that he should have cut out some of the silly mistakes by now.

To be fair to Mark Chapman who was hosting the Monday Night Club last night he didn't think any Everton fans were booing Stones and was critical of whoever ran the twitter account for posting rubbish.

The journo they had on was right though - there were boos for the team in the first half (rightly so at half-time, but there were boos early in the first half) and then there was an air of frustration whenever Stones got on the ball - as if people were blaming him when it was abundantly clear that he literally had no options ahead of him due to our poor movement.

The only time Stones messed up on the ball yesterday (really, bar one or two miss-placed passed high up the pitch) was for their pen, where the blame lies mostly with Howard for a horrendous bit of goalkeeping.

Stones looks 10x the defender with Robles behind him... the proof was there for all to see against City. He simply just doesn't trust Howard and that's why he hesitated yesterday - you can clearly see it if you watch it back.

Absolutely. Because Howard doesn't show for the ball.

Did the same against Spurs. Just stuck to his line when a pass to him was on but didn't bother moving, so Stones had either hoof or keep the ball.

Howard didn't show for the ball because that pass should never have been made to him. Ayew was just too close.

Stones should have just put it anywhere else. Just because he is John Stones doesn't mean he is not to blame for anything. He is a young player, relatively inexperienced, and can make occasional mistakes.

The question to be asked is if he will learn from his mistakes.

Opposition teams have realised that he always tries to bring the ball out of defence. This season it is obvious that teams are putting him under more pressure when he gets possession in defence. They know there is a chance he will overplay the ball. Last Sunday they were right.

It would be absolutely brilliant of the 8000+ Blues at the Etihad tomorrow gave a rousing rendition of "Money can't buy you Stones" right before kick-off... would surely boost JS for the game and shut the whingers in the fan base and media right up !!!

COYB !!!

Especially knowing how inept Howard is in those situations why pass to him? On the other side though, Stones shouldn't have passed it to him, but there was plenty Howard could have done to deescalate the situation.

Sentimental hogwash. Drop him.

It was on. It was on the second he couldn't turn out. He hesitated because Howard didn't show. Then just passed it.

If Howard showed after seeing him begin forced back, a pass would've happened and got hoofed well before Ayew got there.

Why would he have when in the last home game Stones had two chances to give a more straightforward back pass but decided to do two Cruyff turns instead?

You see I don't know what is the best thing to do is?

Do we boo them and groan at every mistake, which in turn transforms the players into nervous wrecks. We as fans are almost escalating the situation.

Or on the other hand is it up to the players to lift us as fans, get us on side and roaring them on. Ashley Williams said on MOTD2 that it was perfect for them the atmosphere. it almost gave them a lift due to the lack of noise coming from Goodison.

I do sometimes cringe when i hear fellow fans just drag the atmosphere down. I honestly dread going to Goodison these days, i just want to sit/stand there and really get behind the team even if we are doing poo. Even if it doesn't improve our gameplay, it might effect the away side.

I'm sure I'll be shot down for saying i want to support and encourage my team :)

Guaranteed to be sung at least of a couple of times. The away lads have been great again this season.

It only seems to be at home, where the real stick gets hurled at the players.

Have you noticed Suarez comments saying he miss the R's fans and how wonderful they are and how great this was to play at anfield. Don't think stones will be saying the same about us
