John Stones

A collective mental fragility is permeating through our defence, and a lack of trust and confidence in each other and what they are supposed to be doing is what is causing them to make so many mistakes for me.

I'm loath to blame it on any one individual, certainly not Stones who will flourish under different defensive coaching at another club as we will no doubt find out next season.

Seduced.

He is fantastic...but at the moment he needs a time out...

No, he doesnt, what he needs is people to get right off his back and let him do what he does best.

Ive seen a minor drop in his performance level, but thats to be expected given the amount of games we had recently, hes not costing us goals, hes just being his normal boss cool and composed on the ball play.

Honestly, at times I wonder if I watch a different game than some people.

Myth busting time

His Cruyff turn in the box was perfectly safe, he ignored the options given to him by Howard and Besic and took the utter little Spurs weapon on a tour with the ball.
His ball back to Howard on Sunday, whilst slightly undercooked, bounces off Lukakus shins when Howard does his job and goes towards the ball instead of taking a step backwards and then kicking the player going for a ball running out of play.

We saw a tired performance on Sunday, from most players, even Barry who had a superb game went AWOL for about 20minutes during the game.

You only have to read the tweets from Rio, somebody with no agenda to fill and somebody that knows slightly more about the art of defending then most of us on here.

I guess im just a visionary.

Is there a CB, or any defender who didn't make mistakes? Stones will learn from his and I bet you won't see an under hit pass
from him very often, now. And as he gains experience he'll get to know when he can play out from defence and when to get rid.

His slightly soft back pass wouldn't have mattered if Tim had been more aware on Sunday. He stepped back to get in position to
launch the ball up the ground when it got there, but didn't know where Ayew was.

The only thing that worries me about Stones is that he'll be somewhere else when he's ironed out the wrinkles.

Spot on.

Last thing he needs is dropping for such a massive game. He just needs support.

The only people who cause any panic when he is on the ball is the fans (mainly at Goodison) by getting frustrated that he hasn't picked out a 40 yard pass.

He doesn't trust Howard and you can see why. In fact, i'd say to @The Equaliser's comment that the defence trust each other - they just don't have any confidence in their goalkeeper.

That's down to RM's bizarre insistence that Howard is our first choice.

Of course he will be mate. Nobodies perfect and by the time most centre halves reach their prime it's around 29. Chances are, if he continues at this rate, he'll be one of the very best by that point in his career.

Needs a bomb up his arse. He's been offhand and arrogant on the ball because everyone keeps telling him his Pique. He's not. He's had a good season in the PL and now he's being found out in games. His attitude is poor and he has it all to prove that he's a defender worthy of the name. I don't think he is.

Can't see how you can say his attitude is poor. It's not like he's doing a Mirallas.

He's 21. If you can find a faultless central defender of quality at that age, let me know.
