John Stones

Playing in front of Howard hasn't stopped Funes Mori bring a revelation and looking like one of the buys of the season, Dom.

I think the truth of the matter is John is a good player but not nearly as as good as the hype suggests.

And it is starting to show and both the press and the public are starting to realise this.

IMO John Stones would be best advised to stay where he is and develop his game at an Everton team which I firmly believe is going places.

Stones and Funes Mori could forge a great partnership at Goodison over the next half a decade.

I think Funes Mori has done very well but don't agree that he's exempt from our recent problems and that Stones should take the fall. For me it's all about the partnership and the balance. Jags and Lescott yes, Jags and Distin no, Distin and Heitinga yes, Distin and Stones yes, Jags and Stones yes, Stones and Mori no, Jags and Mori looks promising.

Taking risks as an attacking mid
You clearly have an issue with Barkley so I think your views on the subject are blinkered. I can't say you're wrong as it's your opinion, but I don't know how you could have watched us play this season and draw the conclusions you have.

Barkley has been one of the most influential players in the whole league. He could be in with a shout for the team of the season. Stones wouldn't even get in the Everton team of the season as Jagielka and Mori have been better than him.

What silly mistakes has Barkley made then? Are they the ones where he breezes past 3 players runs with it for 20 yards and then gives the ball away? There was a chance yesterday where he dispossed a Stoke player on the edge of our box, ran with the ball up the field, played a one two with Lukaku and smashed it wide with his left foot. There aren't many players in the world at his age who could have made a chance like that for himself. But the negative amonst our support were probably concentrating on the miss.

Stones is a long way off being a top class defender and only a biased Evertonian would say that at the moment. He has flair and class but being a top centre half requires you to be able to defend very well consistently, which Stones hasn't been able to do this season.
Totally agree. Barkley is an attacking midfielder who's perogative is to cause problems for the opposition and take risks that could lead to goals. Losing the ball for these players is part and parcel of the role.

A defender trying tricks and risky passes is unnecessary and also generally fruitless. It's not as if Stones scores goals or gets assists. His olay football is great if we're winning comfortably, but in a nutty gritty situation, pulling out his Johan Cruyff repotoire 12 yards from his own goal just smacks of showing off and causing undue stress on his teammates.

I disagree.

Chelsea bid £40m for Stones. By anyone's opinion that's a truly world class figure for a young defender. In fact if you take out the deal for the dodgy Brazilian to PSG it puts Stones virtually top of the pile.

By comparison there have been no serious bids for Barkley.

So if we excuse our opinions either way as biased fans - the football world has already labelled Stones as a world beater.

I'm not doubting Barkley has great skill in beating those initial cluster of opponents but I question whether he will ever have the intelligence or maturity to consistently make the right call at the end of it. As such, if he picks the wrong pass or shoots wildly, then his initial burst of skill is wasted. I think other clubs would.be a lot less tolerant.

Look you cannot beat class, and this lad has it in abundance remember RB he had a sticky patch he looks a world class midfielder he knock players off the ball with his power upper body strength - Stones has time to develop all this we play him as soon as he is fit and ready in a defence with a better keeper behind him!
Jags can't play every game - I liked our defence yesterday but they trusted the Keeper behind them!

For me you can't overlook his removal out the side alongside Howard for our increase in defensive nous these past 2 league games.
Stones will be one of the best but right now a 21 year old CB isn't what we need in an already suspect defensive organisation under martinez.

There's no doubt in my eyes selling Stones for £40-45 million would be fantastic business. Say we spent it on a Yarmolenko type player, a replacement hard as nails CB who's in his prime and a very good GK, we would come out of that transfer window miles stronger and that's not even touching the tv cash.

A number of times this season I have thought Playing centre half for Everton must be one of hardest positions in the premier league often we have emptied midfield & centre halfs have players running at them & runners coming off them. We also often leave defenders one v one jaap stam the best one v one defender in premier league history possibly could have coped but asking stones too is very unfair. Once he gets back in the team having two wide players who track back & Robles in goal will change the expectation of him far more protection for the defence on the whole & we will start to see his performances pick up

He just needs to look at yesterday's game and watch what Jags and Mori did, just clear it and reorganise if necessary, simple balance is just what he needs to work out

Barkley had a poor season last season and unfortunately he hadn't really matured in to the player we hoped. That's why clubs will have been reluctant to pay big money. He's turned that around this season though and I expect some more interest in him in the summer.

I love Mori, but he made mistakes yesterday, I counted at least 3-4 quite glaring errors and hes done a few in most games hes played.

Stones didnt play yesterday, hes injured and this thread is still bubbling with FIFA loving, hmmmmmm, people who keep declaring how his "head has been turned" and we wouldnt miss him if we sold him, then in the next sentence say we shouldnt accept any less than 50m.

I mean if hes as bad as people claim, why should we get 50m?

Give your heads a wobble and get off the poor lads back, you all should be ashamed of yourself, he put in a transfer request in the Summer, but at no point was he a cock about it, he didnt stamp his feet, he accepted the decision to keep him and got his head down and played his football.

Could easily have spent the whole season whining like an utter lil bish, not unlike some of you are.

Enjoy the lad while hes here, its gonna be a long, long time till we see a player of his talent in the middle of our defence again.

Not me mate

Only thing I've said is he needs a break,he's getting that

If he watches how the ball was moved away from danger yesterday he'd learn to judge his decisions better

I don't want to sell as I know how good this boy could be

Yeah I quoted you cos you mentioned Mori, wasnt implying your 1 of the FIFA loving beauts.

I'm not sure the fans will allow stones to grow as a ball playing defender, our fans perfer the English traditional defender. Plus he transfer request, he will be sold in the su!mer for around 33 million. We will have to buy two defenders in the summer plus a keeper.
