Pete , he is class in a certain way of playing , has got a lot of what it takes to be a player , but a CB? Not for me.

Sorry for being silly a tad. I'm not basing this on a few 'iffy' performances mate. I really don't think he's a central defender who's as good as he or people think. I've been quite strident on this for a while as my post history on this thread will show. There's so much good about his game but so much bad and the bad I see wont be trained out of him, ever.

Personally, I see a 21 year old who has put in some superb defensive displays for us in his time here so far. A defender doesn't normally get into their prime until 28/29 - I think there's plenty of time.

I see a 21 year old who's slapped in a transfer request, shipped goals all over the show, had an on pitch volley with the fans, lost his place and to top it all his face has changed !!

- he handed in a transfer request. I can name a few pretty famous players who have handed in requests yet still stayed at their clubs and stayed there for most of their careers....
- that request got declined. He could have easily refused to play, had he wished to really alienate himself from the fans. He didn't, and rightly so - i'm not praising him for doing his job here, but I am not gonna use the request as something to bash him with
- he was brilliant for us from October through to Christmas. He was a 21 year old, tasked with leading our line in the absence of our club captain, with a terrible goalkeeper behind him and a player who had never played in English football never mind the PL next to him. I'd say he did pretty well...
- That thing against Spurs was entirely, 100% melts in the Park End. I'm sorry but it was. He was never under any danger. He was playing well, the team had played really well in the second half and we were well on the front foot. One turn too many, but so what? He pulled it off, it was less of a risk than going back to Howard (as proved a few weeks later vs Swansea). A huge mountain out of a molehill.
