our spine of youth will deliver on saturday

Looking at that picture, the only thing Barkley will be delivering is a sterling performance as the Phantom of the Opera

Softly, deftly, let's all go to Garlands

And why would he unless directed by the club?

There's no need to say anything at all.

He did his talking on the pitch with some superb performances in the first half of the season.

He hit a rough patch of form and an injury.

That's all there is to it. Nothing more.
There is no need to say anything at all if he still wants to jet off.

That is what I'm getting at. The fact that he hasn't come out and said anything is a pretty clear indication that he does not want to be here and his position has not changed since the summer.

I'm not trying to claim some sort of conspiracy, just merely stating that if he had changed his mind he's had 7 months to tell us. Since he hasn't said anything, he probably still wants to leave the club. If he wants to leave the club in exchange for us getting a large fee then I no longer have any concerns as I would rather see us not paying wages to someone who doesn't want to be here.

I'm not saying anything about how he's played in the last six months, but the fact that he hasn't exactly been in outstanding form and the fact that he is still silent about his future has softened the eventual blow of him leaving.

To be honest, i can't remember any interview with him of note this year... especially since the transfer request.
The last year he was in all sorts of PR stuff. This year he has, or the club has, kept him out of the spotlight. Fact is if he wanted to stay he could have come out and said so by now and that the last thing official we heard regarding John's future was that he had lobbed in a transfer request.

the "clearly evident" part comes from the fact that he handed in a transfer request. Definition of want-away. Can't talk around that one.

Mate, does it matter how I get my opinion? Don't care if it's 2 + 2 = Apple. Just an opinion.

Yes I can talk around that one.

Gerrard handed in a request in 2006. Rooney has handed in two. Are/were they want away?

Stones handed in a request. It got declined. He moved on, we moved on. He did not refuse to play, or kick up a fuss. There was no need for any more to be said. The club handled it how they saw fit and that's the best way to go about it.

And because opinion is fine, but it only actually counts for anything if you base it on something...

You've based it on the request that happened 7 months ago and got declined... He's played for us since and put in a lot of very good displays (leading our very young defence in the absence of our captain and one of our most experienced players) until a shaky spell of form post Christmas and an injury that kept him out for five weeks - in which Mori impressed.

But there is no need to say he wants to stay or wants to go either way. There just isn't.

Rom hasn't said he wants to stay. Or Barkley or anybody else...

He doesn't have to tell us anything. He has no obligation to do so.

In the club's mind he's our player and his request got turned down.

Coming out and saying 'I want to stay' and then being sold two months later wouldn't help anybody either

Neither of them has put in a transfer request, or I would be giving them the same treatment.

My point is, if he wanted to stay then he would say something about it. The silence is deafening and is an indication that he wants to go. I'll support him while he is here, but I won't be sad to see him go if he doesn't want to play for us anymore.

If I hand my notice in, then my employer asks me not to leave and I agree to stay, I've clearly shown I intended to leave and that is never going to go away.

Clearly Stones wanted to go, as he said he wanted to go. That presumably hasn't changed. It's not a crime to note that.

But if he wants to go still, then he has to learn his lesson, hand a transfer request in early, and a club who wants him will have to pay the fee we want for him.

With what he did in the summer, and our terrible season, it's pretty much nailed on he's going if the right bid comes in at this point unfortunately, unless we give him a whopping contract.

Says who? you? that is your opinion.

Submitting a transfer request is asking to leave. Yes they were want-aways.

Stones is a good defender, with promise, having an inconsistent year.

O - PIN - ION: a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

So again, here is mine:

Stones is a want-away. He's had his head done in. He will prosper elsewhere, but not here. We have loads of quality young CBs we could start integrating into the 1st team to develop (Tyias Browning, Mason Holgate, Brendan Galloway, Matthew Pennington). Sell Stones and use the money to improve the squad (Goalkeeper, winger, what have you).

The euros in the summer will affect any move massively.
He will be picked and start for England.
He could utterly boss it and add loads onto his value.

Or he could do his cruciate, and not move at all and suddenly be more than happy picking up his pay.
