John Stones

Afraid to say his value won't have gone up much this season. Seemed like it would keep rising at start of the season but he hit a bad bit of form and is now our third choice centre back and his rep isn't quite as stellar as it was previously.

A good euro 2016 would help boost it but if he doesn't start getting games with us before end of season then I can't see him starting for England.

Third choice CB, read what I said that RM should be playing him more with Mori now, this is our future CB partnership. RM should be preparing for Jags to retire.

Stones doesn't deserve to play at the moment. He is suffering a dip in form which happens to most young players.

Nobody in their right mind would play him ahead of Jagielka and Funes Mori at the moment, but he will come back a better player .
He has lessons to learn about when to play football and when to get rid.

This summer will be difficult for all concerned.
It is hard to see anybody paying 40m for him just now or even 30m.
There seems to be no mention of a new contract being discussed which suggests player and agent still want away.
Why would Everton sell for less money than suggested last season and why should other clubs pay more for a player who has not had a great season so far ?

Its still happening, people forgetting just what an amazing talent we have at the club and suggesting we should sell him cheap cos his head has been turned, fans demand loyalty from players but have none whatsoever to players.

John Stones will be the best CB of his generation, he lost his place due to injury, he will retain his place upon an injury to Mori or Jags.

Talk of selling him is just stupid, hes utterly peerless.

Well.. Everton saved the lads career by holding onto him in the summer I reckon. If he went to Chelsea and his arrival conincided with a drop in form like this... everyone would've said he wasn't capable of playing at a 'top club'. Would've been at severe risk of taking a Joleon Lescott type road...

So he won't regain his place cos he's better than Mori or Jags then?

On form - due to the Stones' injury - Jags and Mori deserve their places.

Stones is still genuine quality. He had a shaky spell of form and then the injury. That's it
So if he has to wait for an injury in order to return, what if neither gets injured?

Stones' injury and the form of Jags and Mori keeping him out the side. He is our best centre back but he has to earn his place like Mori has. Hope he isn't sold in the summer, we are moving forward and Stones is a key part of that.

So if he has to wait for an injury in order to return, what if neither gets injured?

Then he is re-introduced to the team as and when needed. If the form of Jags and Mori drops etc.

Personally, I think Stones possibly will leave this summer and at this point if I had to chose which one stayed out of Stones and Rom then I'd pick Rom.

But I don't agree with people (not saying you are btw) advocating the sale of Stones or doubting his quality.

There is a big, nay huge difference between wanting to sell Stones, and not being overly bothered if a sale were to happen. I think there is a small minority on here (possibly being mischievous) who want to sell him. Many more just aren't so bothered about him and feel that as long as we get a fair price, no tears will be shed.

Then he sits on the bench.

Martinez is doing it correctly, people have come in and done a job, Lennon, Mori, Oviedo prior to his injury, Robles and they are retaining their places and rightly so, the likes of Stones, Geri, Besic and Baines have to wait for their chance and take it when it comes.

Its how it should be done.

The manager has prepared the squad for life after Stones while showing Stones that he isn't irreplaceable.

Martinez has shortfalls as a manager, but he has handled the Stones issue well.

If Stones wants to stay and build something at Everton, I'm sure we won't argue, but we are well positioned to move on with or without him.

Can't argue with any of this.
