John Stones

Remember when Rooney asked to leave, twice, and Ferguson didn't sell because he's a good player and selling your good players is quite idiotic? Yeah.

Rooney didn't behave like Stones. Rooney complained United weren't competing with the best, Ferguson went and won a load of trophies and piped him down. By the end Roonwy was busting a gut just to be allowed to play on the left wing. Had Rooney played like Stones did last season he would have been out.

The concern with stones is he cant defend corners or head the ball.
He's 22 today, sometimes we forget how young he is and how much development he still has left in him. Matt Pennington is quite rightly having articles written about his potential as a future outstanding centre half, he's just over 4 months younger that Stones.
With the right coach behind him ironing out the issues , he has potential to be the best young centre half in Europe in two years time....... and still only 24.

Rooney was just an example.

Stones still got on with it and played. Don't forget he was playing to the instructions of a manager and coaching staff that ultimately lost their jobs. Plays a big part that. Not like he was throwing games just because he wanted a move.

Let's keep him, win a few things and keep hold. I bloody love watching him and would be extremely gutted if we sold.

The concern with Stones is he's absolutely going to be one of he best centre halves in the world, and the entire time we had him he'll have been managed by Martinez.

The prospect of not getting even one season of John in our team with a manager he can flourish under is distressing. If he plays next season under Guardiola, Mourinho or Enrique he's going to be outrageously good and we'll have to watch from afar.

Yep he will be great for those teams and manager because it will be easier. He won't be that player for us next season

Stones needs a season or 2 with a proper defensive coach and he'll probably be a world beater. Those years under Martinez and co have really stunted his growth. Fortunately, his natural ability will have saved him.

Think you're daft if you want him sold, personally.

I'd love for Stones to be an Everton lifer, but at the right price, why not sell? At a certain point, keeping (or buying) a player is nothing more than vanity. Several teams have managed to win the league and qualify for Champions League without Stones. There's no reason Everton can't do the same.

He would. Seems like no one remembers what he was like for the first ~10 games of this season before things started to crumble. Absolute titan in defence.

Or perhaps more so how he played for large parts of last season. We conceded 6 against Chelsea and looked all over the shop. He came in and almost immediately steadied us. Jagielka and others almost took a lead from him. Think back to the derby away last season were we basically shut them out and didn't give them any chances in 90 minutes.

After he got injured against Manchester United we went on another slump defensively. I think it was that season that he marked Van Persie too and did so with a confidence and arrogance beyond his years.

For the most part of this season he has got massively sidetracked and I think has lost sight of what he's good at. He's almost being trying to prove he's a 50 million centre half, rather than focussing on doing the simple things well and letting his natural abilities shine through.

He has everything. He is quick, when playing at his best reads the game quite well (though this could improve) comfortable on the ball, has grown so could be more dominant aerially ant times tackles very well. He is also a good talker and organiser.

People won't like Neville's comments but he rate shim higher than Varane which is high praise. I think the last 6-8 games of the season he was getting better. Against Southampton at home he almost carried us and really helped the young players through.

Everton's strength for many years has been our recruitment. If we got upwards of 40 million I would not be overly concerned. He has a set of luxury skills that in many ways are not what we need immediately. However a new manager would get him back on track quickly and I think alongside Mori (or Jags) we'll be back to being quite stringent at the back again. I hope he stays which is the opposite to how I feel about Lukaku. I think Stones is a good egg.

The only managers that would make Stones look good would be Pulis, Moyes or Allardyce and our fans wouldnt be keen on any of those. Someone like De Boer or Pellegrini would barely make any difference to Stones defending.
