John Stones

If Stones goes to City, I genuinely believe that he becomes their main centre back. He'll just have others playing alongside him.

Pep played 3 at the back at Bayern, didn't he? If he's going to do so at City he will need a fair amount of centre halves. Mangala and Kompany aren't going to play the whole season, so I reckon Stones would be getting time on pitch at City.

Be interesting to see if the pundits that keep defending all the goals he cost us towards the end of last season keep defending him if he ends up at City. Potentially one of the best centre halfs in Europe but sick of hearing the word potential and John Stones together now.

Those looking to sell Stones have a Plan B in mind if this is true?

Panic I assume

I'd imagine the profit we have to make on player trading to satisfy the short term cost control measures is based on the financial year of the club (not 100% sure on this though). I would argue a profit of about 40m on Stones (assumes sale price of 50m less his net book value less what we have to pay to Barnsley in sell on fees) could be replaced or at least close to replaced by sales across two transfer windows.

Maybe I am being a bit optimistic but I would think the profits on selling McCarthy, Cleverly and Coleman would get us near 40m with the valuations of players seen in the market currently as these players all have minimal net book values. I do like Coleman but think Stones would be more important to keep.

Obviously it's not as easy as just clicking your fingers and selling a player but across two transfer windows I wouldn't consider it too hard to achieve. Probably won't matter anyway though, still think Stones is likely to be gone soon.

"Been told by someone who does get decent info that both Stones and Lukaku will sign new contracts. Have to wait and see"

That was posted by one of the Admins on TEF. I'd love it to be true but i'd resigned myself to him leaving, hopefully Moshiri has found a way around the wages situation.

Have City contacted Everton? have they made an offer?

Could they be playing a waiting game hoping to force our hand and lower the price?

I dunno, over the last few years our hand is become rather hard to force, Chelsea tried it with Stones, United with Baines, we're a it strong now for that, and with these two players we hold the cards in a firm grip, so not sure they can, but I can't see City going into the new season without knowing for certain either way if they are getting him.

I just don't want us to do what we did with Lescott and start the season with a player we know we are selling and everything still up in the air.
