John Stones

John Stones can't defend he never has been able to defend, i don't understand this fascination with a CB who can run forward with the ball but can't defend properly.

Watch Chiellini/Bonucci for Juventus and Italy it's all head, kick and block very little flash just rugged defending basics every week and it's never done them any harm.

Notice how he's getting slaughtered now for his mistakes because he's at a media darling club under a media darling manager.

Last season we have plums like Ferdinand on telly telling everyone to get off his back for making stupid errors "because he's learning and going to become a top player". Effectively saying it didn't matter if he costs Everton goals because he'll be leaving them anyway. Bad beauts.

He is so bad. Makes so many mistakes.

So glad we got Bailly for £30m instead of someones like Stones for £50m! They are both the same age too

It's genuinely ridiculous how everyone writes off players in their early 20's, he'll be boss for many years to come. I pretty much instantly dismiss anyones views on football if they come out with tripe writing off potential at such an early age.

'oh but he's not learning from his mistakes' - lol, he's still 22 ffs, he's going to be making mistakes for some time yet just like countless other great central defenders did at the start of their careers.

Do people actually think it's as simple as someone making a mistake and then never making that mistake again because they learnt from it ? as if anything ever happens that quickly, it's something that's going to take time. It's how players develop, if it was as simple as knowing what you did wrong and then being able to fix it instantly everyone would be the perfect player within weeks.

No one ever used to be like this before Rooney existed. We want world beaters by 22 now lol.

"oh but he cost £48 million" - and what ? That's pretty much the going price for a young english player with a ton of potential.

nobheads.

Disclaimer: i've been drinking.

In fairness to Paul Merson, he ranted about Stones's shortcomings on several occasions.
