Stones will get there, he's a talented lad
His problem is that his talents are either being misused, or overridden by a combination of poor instruction, and overwhelming hubris. Almost every clanger he's dropped has come directly from him not opting for the most sensible method of getting out of trouble (ie it is not a cardinal sin to put the ball into touch if you're stuck in a corner), and/or him foolishly believing he can outsmart every other player, which always seems to come back to bite him.Stones will get there, he's a talented lad
I think also Stones has been rediculously left to fend for himself at the back at times for City.
Otamendi goes on walkies and the fullbacks are pretending to be centre mids while the wingers are being used as inverted full backs or whatever, Stones is often left in 1 on 3, 2 on 3, 2 on 4 situations when teams are breaking against city.
The best form stones was in was when he was along side Distin, an out and out defender, someone to talk him through how to defend through a game.
I think Stones will be fine at city but they need to get a "defenders defender" next to him
Like Carlos Puyol next to Gerard Pique.

If he is to become a great player, it'll be through elimination of bad habits, not by improving on technique. But for me, those bad habits are, if anything, increasing, not decreasing.
Vidic and Ferdinand
Personally, I would prefer my team played with two "defender's" defenders instead of a defender whom needs a partner to protect him rather than go to war alongside him.
As per what @Piranha posted on this thread yesterday![]()
I think that thing is the two style support each other. If you have two "defenders defenders" you end up with hoofball, which is pretty much what we have now with Jags/Williams/Mori, you need something that will change that mentality at times and offer something different.
Agreed.
And someone mentioned Vidic complementing Rio.
I am sorry but to me Stones will never be anything like Rio.

Regardless of what level of quality he reaches, you have to admit that if there was one English defender in the Premier league era that you would align Stones' main attributes with, it would be Ferdinand....
