John Stones

Ferdinand was a much better defender than he got credit for

True. But Stones is being compared to the pretty much complete player Rio became, not the 21 year old version. Or 22. But you get the point.

FWIW, I have serious doubts that Stones will get anywhere near the career that Rio had anyrate.

In Ferdinands early days ( West Ham and I think the Leeds 4-4 game) we absolutely murdered West Ham while he was in the team . 6-0 home 4-0 away to name a few .

Stones had been badly guided IMO he's played with 2 managers who view defended as a low priority. If he had a brain or his agents were not greedy then a season under koeman would of done him the world of good .

He will get better but he's going to need some turnaround to get near the level Ferdinand was at with Leeds and Utd

I have to say, I don't. He should be an excellent player, though he might have made the move too soon. There'd be far less pressure and scrutiny of his growing list of mistakes if he had stayed with us another year or two. But there's plenty of centre halves who have had shocking first seasons with their clubs and grew into the role, I don't expect Stones will be any different

Imagine being coached by a Defender who can both 'play' and 'tackle'...but does Koeman bother himself with hands on or is it left to his kid...Hmmm?

I'm not sure but I'd imagine koeman would have his say with a talent like stones . But we will never know
