John Stones

Lot of credit goes to both to Moyes and Martinez for that, they both have been clear that they look at off pitch issues as well as the talent of the players. And to the acedemy staff, in interviews at least all the U21s/U18s seem to have their feet on the ground.
Spot on.no baloteli type dummy spitting signings by both managers

I think it is cos he is a normal lad.

I was nattering with a Newcastle fan the other day about Stones, and he made the point that perhaps we dont always appreciate. Word for word, he said, "Thing about Everton, you never seem to have bellends as players".

True dat.
the main thing i remember in mid 80s was not the success but that you wanted those players to win and you felt like they wanted to win for us. so many pundits and fans go on about winning being everything and they are totally wrong. there are players who have played in the champions league for chelsea that I bet most of the fans cant even remember. a big chunk of the reason Stones will stay is because he is a decent lad surrounded by decent lads, and he is loved here.

That was very noticeable to me as well.i thought he was outstanding yesterday and was it looks like the the physical side of his game has gone up a notch to match his composure. Considering everything that's happening at the moment it was very impressive. We must do everything in our power to keep this gem of a player
Even if the board is cowardly enough to want to cave in, from a financial perspective, even if we get 35M now, in 12 months time it will be 50M plus....just wouldn't make sense

We will never ever get 50+ million for Stones, not in this universe at least.

David Luiz went for 50M, and he's crap

50 million euros but regardless of the price, it's a pointess comparison, there aren't two identical transfers... if some retarded oligarch comes in because he wants to play Fifa in real life, he might pay 50 million up front, this has happened once in history, I'd say chances are rather slim it will happen with us, but I wouldn't mind either.

Thing is I could see it happening.

With Ross Barkley there are alternatives around for the mega rich clubs. I could list 10 young midfielders who are alternatives to Ross for the Premier League oligarchs.

However who do you compare to Stones? There isn't another home grown defender (important for the CL clubs) who comes close to him. His stats put him up with the cream of the crop around Europe and you know he is a good lad who would have no problems settling in. He could play for a decade plus at your club so £5m a year isn't that bad. Rio Ferdinand was a good investment for Man Utd and inflation adjusted that was a similar fee. I'm calling it now, he'll stay at least one more year then become the most expensive defender ever.

He will be wearing this strip next time Everton play down at the bridge

I genuinely think he has emerged as the best center back in the league. That's not my Evertonian head speaking either. His reading of the game, his calmness on the ball and the way he deals with pressure is world class, even now at his young age.

There was one particular moment at Southampton in the 2nd half, still at 2-0, with about 15 minutes to go... Near the corner flag, under pressure from a Southampton player; the only obvious choices were either lashing the ball out of play or attempting a suicidal ball to Howard. Not Stones. A drop of the shoulder and a couple of shimmy's later, turning the pressure inside out, he played a tidy pass down the line to Coleman and the danger was gone. At 2-0 the next goal was crucial. That was the defining moment for me where i thought that we really do have a defender here that has got the lot.

Truly world class center back

Yep, which in my eyes makes him worth a lot more than Chelsea keep offering. Not quite the same but look how much was paid for bale and Suarez, not saying Stones is at that level. But a succesful team needs good strikers but also good defenders to stop strikers scoring.

However we must not sell.
