He's brilliant, people are quick to forget how young the lad is, especially in terms of a Central Defender.

Central defenders don't tend to peak until a bit older than other positions on the pitch, due to experience being a vital asset.

He is already fantastic and given a couple more years will undoubtedly be one of the best Centre Backs in the league/world. Doesn't help that Barry doesn't really have the legs to fill back in if he gets caught further up the pitch, and Cleverley isn't really that great defensively. We have missed McCarthy's energy and defensive work in recent weeks

We need to built on the talented young team we have, in January, now is the time to drop the dead wood and show these lads we mean business.

I think he should stay a centre back, also depends on how long he stays but maybe we could play with 2 more defensive minded full backs in the future IE Galloway & holgate and let stones play like a sweeper and get involved further up the pitch

The full backs tuck in and we become a back 3. never likely to happen I know but thinking this would get the best out of stones

We need to offer him a new contract. New 5.5 year and 80k per week. The same for Barkley. Both of them deserve to be joint-best paid players. Back five for me sounds like a long term plan for me from martinez cuase it would even out all the cover and back up quite nicely except no backup for coleman atm. Doesn't make sense martinez bought two left sided center backs when jags was playing there quietly brilliantly so maybe it's a long term idea unless jags will be gone soon

I would probably swap jags to middle as well rather than rightside

.....from all reports a massively improved contract is on the table but he hasn't signed it because of deliberation over the exit clause.
