John Stones

I have been a bit underwhelmed with dear old John this season in truth.

Wheres the snide in him ?
Wheres the filling out required ?
Wheres the communication with others around him ?
Where is him getting his head in where others won't?

He wants to be the England captain. He wants to play for clubs higher than Everton. I get that. But he needs to develop the 'mean ' and 'snide' part of his game.

Right now he isnt anywhere nearer a better defender than he was 12 18 months ago. His progression going forward is evident but right now he should be winning us games or at least affecting games when were under the cosh through his defensive skills.
Is he really developing his defensive skills?

It's easy to look like a Rolls Royce going forward when there is no pressure but he needs to not lose sight of his bread and butter.

Hes been [Poor language removed] this season bar about 5 games all told.

The parts of his game that's lacking and he's been shown up for will not improve in my view, they just won't I'm afraid. Percentages basics and organisation are ingrained in the art of central defending in English football, he just hasn't got it. 2 year vault please.

To be fair Donald, as a general path, centre backs don't normally mature into their position until later on. I believe he can still learn the art of defending and he already has the other skills.

It's a tough one because whilst he's learning it's also costing us at times. I blame them as a unit though, Stones just looks like he is trying to hard to be the main man.

Stones will move on and learn from a manager who knows how to defend and be an england regular for years

Its true he is a rolls royce waiting to rise to the top.
We play so openly and lack cover from the midfieders and on top of that flappy is behind him
Doesn't stop him trying to head a ball or getting caught out

The kids going to be awesome but theres still a fair bit to work on his defensive game

That tit doesn't help TBF like but the deficiencies I see in his game aren't improving ! I see the same mistakes I saw a year ago happening even more now! I'm not here to slate and cause murder as it aint my style with players, but I cant put up with it while he's making no effort to learn!!

Gunner get a load of stick but I'm not having him at all. The lads slow, and by slow I don't mean pace. Bobby Moore had no pace but could read and think faster than most. Stones hasn't got that and against class he will always be found out. We seem to be falling into the modern trap of calling every player who's half decent world class ( Barkley Coleman Garbutt Mirallas ) He looks great at times bringing the ball out and that but these lapses you will see time and time again against the quickest thinkers and class acts. Just you watch.
