Chelsea set to go all out to pip Manchester City to Everton defender John Stones in the summer

The Premier League champions are set to include one of their young stars on loan as part of an improved offer for the Toffees defender

In demand: Chelsea and Man City are both in for Stones
Chelsea will pull out all the stops to try to beat Manchester City in the race to sign Everton defender John Stones this summer.

Goodison Park boss Roberto Martinez and owner Bill Kenwright stood firm as the Blues weighed in with three bids for the England star prior to the campaign - the highest at £30million.

Stones even handed in a transfer request as the then Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho made no attempt to conceal his admiration for the 21-year-old or hide his pursuit of him, but the more the Londoners pushed the more Everton dug in.

Their resolve to keep Stones when the transfer window next opens will, however, be seriously tested again with Chelsea and City desperate to sign him.

We go again: Chelsea will be back in for Stones this summer

Chelsea hope an improved bid as well as the offer of one of their young stars on loan for next season will convince Everton to do business and that by moving early they will steal a march on City and their incoming boss Pep Guardiola.

Stones impressed with his attitude after his transfer request was rejected by Everton - he knuckled down and refused to let his football suffer because of what was happening off the field.

Departing: Stones is being eyed as a long-term replacement for John Terry

But both Chelsea and City feel he is gettable this time out and try hard again to sign him.

Stones, who joined Everton from Barnsley for £3m in 2013, is seen at Chelsea as a long-term successor to John Terry, who is sweating on his Stamford Bridge future.

The Chelsea skipper’s contract expires in June and he has yet to be offered a new deal.

Be great if these two clubs start a bidding war for John.

And get Chelsea with their "loan deal".

Has no one told them we ain't in the loan market no moah?

Chelsea are having a hard time adapting to the new reality they find themselves in.

They won't even be able to offer CL football to any potential signings this summer.

And City may not be able to either.......

John needs to get first team football with us first ,think RM was right to sit him out for a few weeks, Ramiro is deservedly keeping his place in the starting line up,and when John does get his chance I'm hoping he'll be back to his best with defending being his priority within the team.

Now that we're billionaires too, maybe we should retaliate with a cheeky bid for Willian ?

Had to laugh at this in Sunday's paper - basically said that Martinez can have is pick of, wait for it, any player currently out on loan plus lotus-cheek, for a year long lone.

So basically we bummed 'em twice, not too many of their first team would make ours, yet we will do a deal to sell England's most gifted ball playing centre half in and develop their talent at the same time?

No such thing. They may compete over personal terms, but once a fee is agreed, that's where any 'bidding' stops.

True.

But if two or more teams are after his signature then the fee will only be agreed when the bidding war ends and one team is last man standing.

If two or more trans want to sign him then it is between them and Everton to determine a fee. Once that is agreed, the other clubs will pay the same. It's not like if we agree 40m with Chelsea, City will come along and offer 45m.

Of course not.

But if Chelsea have tabled a bid of £40 million and we have not yet agreed to accept it, City may very well offer £45 million if they really want the player.
