Not for me. I see Coleman and wonder what the point is. I like him - he's likeable. But he's (now) a terrible attacking FB and barely decent defender. We need an upgrade. It;s becoming a priority position.

Was just forging a thing with Ricco imo, came good towards the latter part of the season, Funnily enough, it coincided with the team performing better....

Seamus Coleman is currently streets ahead of JonJoe Kenny but a full season in Germany playing every week and developing his game could certainly improve Kenny to a point where he may be good enough to come back and play every week for us.

I don't understand our reported efforts to sign Meunier from PSG. I think we have far bigger problems in the team than right back and if we are paying nearly 30m just to have Seamus Coleman as a back up full back then somebody must have discovered an Aladdin's cave of money.

He got a few telling interceptions in (the one in the derby most memorably), but his game has gone compared with 3/4 seasons ago.

...and Cole,an cant....and will get worse.

Coleman is ok when he’s in top physical condition and can rely on his pace. As he gets older though and is picking up injuries the number of games per season he’s at his best condition is getting less and less. Without this he’s a limited footballer who has refused to learn how to cross a ball in his entire career.

It’s harsh as I like him as a bloke and he’s given us his whole career but if we want to progress to the next level, having a full back who can cross a ball isn’t asking for too much.

Lol nope. Coleman is still a very good right back and has a couple of years left in him. IF we can find a better RB, that would be ideal. But until then, we can't be convincing ourselves that Championship level cloggers like Kenny are going to elevate us. Pyar Zatara behaviour here

Good point this. He and Walcott never seemed to consistently play well as a partnership. Walcott was much better with Kenny.

thats just not true, obviously at his peak maybe but been a while since then.

His stock in trade is that cut back ball after a run from deep inside the opposition box. It's about the most predictable manoeuvre in the PL.

He gets back into defensive shape quickly enough, it's just that he's not a natural defender - he doesn't force wingers wide or dominate the one on ones with them. And a ball over the top sees him all at see.

Yeah if people watch Coleman in Martinez’s first season, when he rinsed Shaw and scored v Southampton, or his goal v Swansea, he was brilliant. No one can say he’s at that level now. He’s lost a yard in pace and when that happens you need to fall back on technique and guile and he has never had much of either.

Hate to draw comparisons but watching Coleman lob up yet another slow floater into the middle of the box for an opposition keeper to catch is infuriating when you see Alexander Arnold almost singlehandedly carrying all of Liverpool’s supply to their front line.

I';m amazed when Coleman does get a cross in, whatever the quality. It's like he's playing in diving boots and has no feel for the ball to get under it and vary the pace and trajectory of delivery. WTF are they doing in training with him?

Meunier is proven quality and in his prime for the next 3,4 years and will cost like £20m.

While we have no idea how the Norwich lad will turn out, PL quality or not.

Meunièr is roughly the same age as Coleman. Why would we bring in a player not too far off the same age to replace him? It makes no sense.
He’s a good player but doesn’t seem to fit the kind of player we are apparently looking at, at all. Stinks of a Man United panic buy. And they need him more.

And I didn’t say we’d go for the Norwich boy. I said that type of player is more likely.

He'd cost, but he's what: 19?

No brainer for me.

I don’t think we will look at him if I’m honest, purely because promoted teams usually hang on to their better players for the first season.

But he’s the sort of player I’d go for absolutely.
